Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
You hear correctly; and the FR requires some woodworking to fit as well.
One or two members in here have used a Gotoh and this one..

I can't find the Gotoh thread presently but it is in here someplace.
DO you have the stringlock?

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
Nope... I mean the behind-the-nut stringlock that these have as OEM; quite a different animal to a locking nut.
From memory, the Floyd requires new bridge post holes and possibly wood removed from the interior to allow free movement of the trem.
Here's the SX specifications...

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
Now you can use these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272609867607?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
but you MUST USE the pivot post provided as they're smaller in diameter than the Westone ones which allows for intonation.
The trem block is a little too short so a bit of woodwork is required in the trem spring cavity to stop them binding. Or buy a longer block. All in an easy fit really.
Here's a l/hand one fitted on a DX

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
hey i do have the OEM behind the nut string lock but it seems to be missing a few pieces so i was planning on using the FR locking nut. i also think you can route the neck pocket deeper for it to properly intonate but im not sure do you think it would work?

that's a great idea with that bridge but i already have a spare FR and the item you linked doesn't ship to my location sadly.

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
You're deadset going to use that bridge you've got regardless of what advice you're getting here, which is fine; I have no experience in fitting FR bridges to Westone guitars so cannot offer any more than I have already...
The stringlock may be missing parts - I'm guessing the locking plates? - but they are available here if you care to actually hunt the relevant threads down! Once again, a lot less work than retrofitting a locknut.

Dude, use the Gotoh 1996t (better than an original FR due to design improvements) or the one the Westone said about.
Ditch the Orig. FR idea.

Eddie Van Halen loves them. So there's a celebrity endorsement for ya.
MUCH cheaper here... though shipping may be worse?

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
hey i checked it out but looks like it would end up costing the same. what ive decided to do is string up the fr i have and see if it will intonate as im pretty sure its a fr copy so there is a chance it might work. and if it doesn't ill just have to get the gotoh shame though as i dont have that kind of money at the moment.

Re: Spectrum sx floyd rose replacement
Let us know how it all works out. At any rate, the sustain block will not be long enough. Did you find my Dynasty Floyd thread? I explain how to fix that. You'll need the longest sustain block you can find, which is usually a 42mm (to fit the body width however, you'll need longer that that which isn't available, therefore you'll need to file away some wood in the cavity as in my thread).
