What else do you do on a lazy Saturday? I did venture out side, well the out side world is still there, so I came back in again!

Anyway my Thunder is due a string change, its always been on heavy ish gauge strings and as much as I like it that way, I do like to bend the higher strings occasionally, so I decided to try some of these...

Its probably nothing new but I hadn't seen these, in theory its a best of both really thin top end with nice meaty low end strings. Which means when I play low down it should feel roughly as its always done.

So some blood, no real sweat and some furnisher polish later (might as well clean things whilst you can get at them), I have new strings. Initial findings are they feel pretty good, quite stringy like really!  It doesn't feel odd going from that thick to reasonably thin which is also a relief.

I did find a bit of fret wear but nothing too bad, certainly not re fret territory yet.

The Skinny/Heavy sets are terrific. I especially like 'em on a G-scale guitar, and as you say, the best of both worlds. Nice flexibility.

That's pretty close to my preferred gauge as well, though I must have a wound G, and my skinnies aren't quite as skinny as that!

All mine (18) are strung with 10-52, most are Rotosound Blues but I recently discovered I like Dean Markley Bluesteel,  which is a stroke of luck as I bought 10 packs @£2 each with Thomann vouchers before trying them Smile

I've got 11-52 on my Thunder and 12-54 on my Spectrum. I do like a chunky sound though.

I've just discovered Slinky Tops and Heavy Bottoms. I'm sold on them. Chunky bottom end but also bendy tops too

I like these as well.  I have them on two guitars.  Both G scale.  Great for drop D as well.
