Graphite neck question. Empty Graphite neck question.

Post by NoodlerKS Mon Mar 23, 2015 4:00 pm

Hey all,

First time caller here. A friend gave me a modulus graphite neck and I was wondering if anyone here could help me with some questions. I believe these were put on some Westone guitars at one time. I need suggestions for what body might fit with the correct 25.5 scale length. Obviously I would prefer a Villain or something from Westone as I'm sure it would fit like a jem but i'm not having much luck on ebay/craigslist etc.

More importantly I'm having some concerns regarding the truss rod. I wanted to make sure it functions/adjusts before going on my hunt for a body. If I tap the back of the neck I hear a little rattle from the rod. I understand this can sometimes be normal if it is set to loose (which it is) but I wanted to tighten it up a bit to make sure it wasn't snapped. Here is my problem....it looks like a nut or something that would thread onto the truss rod is missing. I can't adjust anything. Does anyone know what it might parts or tools I might be need or am I screwed? Thanks in advance.

how much of that truss rod is left popping out there? looks sheared off to me, potentially a nightmare, or if the pics are decieving potentially really easy fix

Thanks for your reply,
3/8" is left popping out. The pic might be a bit deceiving. I can't determine if there are any thread's sticking out. Hopefully if it is sheared off I could still make a small adjustment with some small pliers. I imagine since it is graphite it wouldn't need but one adjustment as long as string gauge/tension stayed the same.

Ok, it looks like a thread on it, and about 9mm? measure the rod's dia. and get a truss nut to fit.
I'm not familliar with these necks but I'm sure one of the other guys with vastly more knowledge than myself will be along shortly with more/better help.

Thanks for the welcome Meadows.

Funny enough I just watched this about an hour ago. I was interested until I saw the kit runs $249

Ouch !!! $$$

Maybe a local luthier might have one you could borrow if you think it will fix the situation, looks like a fairly quick job Smile

I think it's pretty fair to say a luthier won't let his tools go out on loan, he might however repair something for you. Smile

My close personal friend Dan Erlewine makes it all look so easy doesn't he?

'Course he does have a workshop the size of an airplane hangar, stocked with every friggin' tool imaginable! Neutral
