Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
Anyone else here like old Les Pauls?
I have been quite busy recently in the buying department and have stumbled upon the stuff below.

They are as follows
Bottom left to right - Pearl LP Custom, Joodee LP, Aria Pro LS 500 Transition, Aria Pro Leopard, Vester Tradition, Morris Tobacco Burst, Morris Clown Burst.
Top Left to right - Shaftesbury LP Special, Lotus LP Custom
I have some others but I have posted them before.

Nice herd there Graham! Ya gotta love the Lesters eh?
I only have a couple, neither one is a Gibby or a Mats, or even "old":
A red mat-finish Epi studio, which I have since upgraded with a pair of over-wound pups from GFS

...and a Vintage (Wilkinson) Lemon Drop which I really love.

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
Nope; don't like 'em! Had one once and it was too heavy on the shoulder for gigging so let it go and haven't had one since then.... I was 18...
However, that is a nice group, fella; good catches all!
Is that an APII there, Damian?

West - That Richwood is pretty nice looking - nice flame and fretboard detail. I'm not familiar with that make

Nope, 1970 Les Paul Custom.
Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
It was the Richwood I was referring to; I didn't have the full picture when I was looking this morning!! And it sure looks like an APII PE series!!

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
I'm on a LP kick at the moment. Loving the sound and feel. And they look cool, too.
I have 2 of them. Both are Matsumoku's!

Electra's X935CS and X240, respectively. Seriously rare birds.
Electra X935CS

Electra X240

The X240 has been restored now, with correct knobs, switch tips, truss rod cover, tuners, and pickguard. I'll repost one day now that it's complete.

Love that finish on your X240, class.
The black knob looks like something off an old stove.
What do the switches do??

Westbone wrote:Love that finish on your X240, class.

The black one is a 5 setting rotary, as follows:
1. Both pups in series
2. Neck pup
3. Both pups in paralell
4. Bridge pup
5. Both pups out of phase
Two knobs are volume and tone. The two switches are magical in nature, since no one really "knows" what they do. They're connected to capacitors and henceforth magically capacitate the signal way when you flick them. One for the neck pup and one for the bridge pup.
This X240 is my fav at the moment. Just something about it. From vibe to sound, love it. And it's got that cool 70's tortoise shell binding!

Hi Hoax,
I got a couple of old Japanese copies you might like.

The black one is an Avon Custom, and the other is a Satellite branded sunburst Custom with a neck like a baseball bat. The Satellite has a couple of "Special" features such as a 5 bolt neck and the incredibly rare submerged machine heads fitted by my dad!!!
We also have a couple of Epiphones, a Tokai and a Maison in the collection I might dig out and post a few pics of later.
DAN.

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
nice lesters you guys
You have a Braw Clan there Hoax.
Now I'm a sucker for a blingy fretboard so westbones Richwood is the winner in my book

Simply gorgeous
I have had a couple of gibbys in the past but can't afford such luxuries in these hard times so my only LP is an Epi standard in ebony with a few cosmetic modifications.
from this.

to this.

(sorry about the poop photo quality)
If I may be permitted a temporary thread jack,....
but on the subject of blingy fretboards, the last time I went guitar shopping i was looking for an SG but didn't like the one they had in the shop, so I tried every humbucker equipped fixed bridge solid body in the the place and fell in love with this.

It's a Chinese built Ibanez.

Lovely stuff, but you are a sick man! I reckon that you and Damian could create a "Clash of The Titans" situation.
If you remember though, Damian keeps finding more guitars in his house that he can't even remember buying, so it could be a close call as to who has most.

Welll my egas in in check for now as I am out of room for anything else at the moment. At mt last count before my last egas attack I was at or around 140+ counting the Guitars and Basses I have. Egas at it's worst but what a way to suffer. Almost all of my collection is Electra, Electra/Westone and Westone models with the exception of a few Aria Pro, Vantage, Series 10(SLM),Peavey,Fender(only 2 a 1984 Dan Smith Strat and a 2001 Texas Special Hot rod strat) along with a few corts and other odds and ends. Thanks for the compliments

Geez, between Westbone and Mortarman my 26 starts to look like tiny talent time.
I would still like to get more, but there aretwo three deterrents:

I would still like to get more, but there are
- relentless arthritis in the fingers
-
money - the wrath of the female cohabiting with me!

The best thing is opening a case and finding a guitar you'd totally forgot about. Plugging it in and reminding yourself why you bought it in the first place. Like having a new guitar all over again.

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
I agree it is always a pleasure to work my way round the rotation and enjoy all the different combinations Uncle Matt had to offer. As one might guess I do stay a bit busy changing the strings.lol...... Here is a link to my photbucket albums that document some but not all of my Electra/ Westone collection for those interested in the different models. The videos were done in my man cave/music room during the Electrafest 2011 get together we had for the Electra Forum members here at my home. There is a good video of the Rail bass in action with our very own Westone forum member and his rail Bass as well as another one that shows how good you can crank up a Vintage 12 string model. Enjoy and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks again to all here for the knowledge that you share and the passion we all have for our beloved Westones. Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
Always a pleasure to share the Westones. We need to get together all in one place each year. Over at the Electra Forums we have an Electrafest each year. We have had 3 so far and I had the pleasure of hosting it here at my home in 2011. Man that was an awesome event with over 150+ models all in the same place at the same time for all to inspect and try out. We need to have a Westone fest for all the Westone fans here in the forums. I understand that the distance between many of us is a problem as this forum is a bit more internation in it's membership than the Electra forums but it would be awesome to have that many in one place at one time. If anyone would be interested in such an event I would be glad to volunteer to host the event here in Georgia as the weather is nice here mostly year round. Summer can be a bit hot but the mancave has AC so no problem. SO WHAT SAY Yee Fellow Westone Fanatics????????? Lets get those Westones together and have a blast.... This is a serious offer so let me know what your thoughts are on this one. Thanks Arthur aka mortarman120gang11c
Just as a teaser these would be available to try out at such an event

Well i know the distance can be a problem but we could do a live internet feed like we do for the Electrafest so at least you could interact and see what is going on. As always if anyone happens to find themselves down South Georgia way USA then you are always welcome to drop in and give the a trial run. The Lady is a great player for certain and believe it or not the shape is actually very comfortable to play standing or sitting. Just a thought but this is still a serious offer so maybe we can make it work. Thanks Arthur aka mortarman120gang11c

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
it was made with a set neck
i got it from a seller on ebay. i had purchased a very nice butterscotch strat body and a couple necks from him previously, so i felt quite confident that the Les Paul would not disappoint. it has a nice full neck on it, not baseball bat, but not shredder either.
DragonMountain Custom
looking at this listing, the body is Alder, not maple as i indicated earlier. it was an easy project. just pick out hardware and install in finished body.
i have several Aria Les Paul guitars and a goldtop les paul with mini humbuckers by Sekova. i wanted a really good solid Les Paul that didn't have some defects or imperfections. and i also didn't want to be faced with a Gibson price tag. so this was a good alternative; support a small business and get a fine guitar that is both a classic, and quite unique looking.

Arthur... I'd be there if you did a Westone fest.
I still think we should combine it and make it an Electra/Westone Fest.

Re: Old Les Pauls - Mostly Recent Aquisitions
found this in a box in the garage yesterday...
it had been damaged in shipping, the neck got wanked and the screws were stripped out. luckily nothing else got damaged, so an easy repair, when i get to it...
seems a good solid build. the electronics do function but aren't really anything super. maybe more a novelty thing i think, but i haven't really played it, i just tested it with enough tension on the strings to get some sound out of it.
