WESTON THUNDER BASS 1A Empty WESTON THUNDER BASS 1A

Post by REGILLENWATER Sun Sep 16, 2012 2:07 pm

Just bought a Weston Thunder Bass 1A with the original case. I bought it to use in a bluegrass band that I play with. The bass is very deep and loud thought it would be good for bluegrass.

My question is what strings are good to put on this bass?

Thanks,

Ron

Welcome to the forums, Ron. You gots an awful nice axe to start your WGAS with. cheers

As far as strings I have had good luck so far with D'Addario ENR72's as half-rounds just feel right to me. My wife has used GHS Boomers for years on her Memphis 4-stringer and loves them.

I suppose your playing style will dictate some of it though. Hopefully Warrn will awake from his late summer nap and chime in, he is one of our regulars here who is basically a full time thumper.

Pics are required of course once you meet your initial post count... Naughty

If it were me in your position and playing that kind of music I would use Rotosound Trubass - they are chunky black nylon coated roundwounds and sound as near to a double bass sound as I have heard. They feel strange to start with but you soon get used to it.

However asking advice about bass strings is like asking advice about underpants. Totally personal preference. T1A will sound great whichever you put on them, a small change in the guitar/amp eq will make most brands sound like you want it to - it is the feel that matters.
