WoW! Real music at last!
My band buddy and best friend Glenn called me up today, all excited!
"Have you seen Live From Daryl's House?", he hollered into the phone.
I replied in my usual succinct and intelligent manner, "What the hell are you babbling about?"
He was so excited he could hardly get he words out.
Daryl Hall! On the internet! I'm watching it now. He's singing with Rob Thomas and it's just great!
LINK
He was right. Turns out that Daryl Hall (he of Hall and Oates fame) has been broadcasting a show free on the Internet since late 2007, mostly from his country home. He brings in all kinds of musical guests and they eat, drink, and play their socks off! I've just finished watching the episode above with Rob Thomas and I'm very impressed with both him and the entire band. The setting is amazing and the production is thoroughly professional. And they did some wonderful new arrangements on Hall's "Your Kiss on My List" and "She's gone".
Cannot recommend it strongly enough.
Pour a glass of yer favourite beverage, dim the lights, and crank 'er up!

Cool... but if I spend any more time on a computer, I'll turn into an even bigger pudding than I already am!! I like the idea of a live format thing, though - gotta be better than MTV style music videos!!

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
Hey yer welcome guys!
I hope you're having as much fun as I am! I'm hooked on the series.
Just watched the episode with surviving members of the Doors. Just great!
Gotta listen with headphones, it'll blow yer mind (as we used to say in the 60's).

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
WOW. I had no idea he was such a musicians musician. Great show. Love the concept...play...then cook. Why hasn't this gotten picked up by a cable channel yet?
Re: WoW! Real music at last!
I'm sure it will get picked up at some point. It's wa-a-ay better than Elvis Costello's Spectacle!
I was surprised also at Hall's ability. I also thought he was a pretty OK performer but this makes it clear that he's a terrific musician!
Still can't stand Joan Oates though!

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
Hey yer welcome! Glad you enjoy it.
What I really like about it is that I get exposed to musicians, singers and music that otherwise would go unknown to me. For example, January's "Guster" turned out to be a really entertaining bunch with strong songwriting skills. Just terrific.
New show coming up in 2 more sleeps!

I had been wondering why the guy wasnt on the show anymore given hes such a fantastic musician in so many ways.
The answers in episode 30, sad a great talent. Check out the performance by Darryl on "I Miss You", got me..

That's a really good show. Catch every episode.
What an amazing voice Eli 'paperboy' Reed has.
Yes, T Bones shoes must have been hard to fill.

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
I remember T Bone from the old Saturday Night Live days when GE Smith was the musical director (don't know if our overseas members are familiar with this show..still going strong here after 30 odd years).
I never really knew him outside of that gig but he was always an infectious character, with a big goofy smile and sporting that trademark fedora. It wasn't until I discovered him on Daryl's House that I put it all together and realized how talented the guy was. He was definitely a key component to the early success of the show.

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
Been following this show since you mentioned it Barry, do enjoy it loads, class stuff.

Just happened to notice the guitarist who took over from T bone Walk, Paul Pesco.

Maybe he'll drag out a Westone one day, who knows.

Re: WoW! Real music at last!
Yeah, the show seems to get a little better each season. Pesco is certainly a talent to be reckoned with. I notice he has a preference for ESP's over Fender...interesting choice. Generally speaking there is always a drool-worthy collection of vintage Gibsons, Fenders and Taylors being played or on the rack behind Hall.Westbone wrote:Been following this show since you mentioned it Barry, do enjoy it loads, class stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of Hall generally, but ya gotta respect his musical ability. I do wish he'd lose those stupid sunglasses. And stop saying, "Here we go"
