Music rooms...
I know everyone has a room, or space where they do the music thing; so let's see them!! I'll start...
the noisy wall... only 3 amps miked up; they're sitting on the PA bins just for height!
...keyboards - since fixed - had the display go doggo on me! - and mixer, computer and monitor amp. Small blue box is an A/B box for the guitar amps...
IDK condensor mike (Very good microphone!!) and TC Helicon perform V to process what I laughingly call "vocals"... (you still can't polish a turd, eh!!)
Spectrum ST Telecaster, lap steel and acoustic guitar, currently everything is in E♭. The monitors get used a bit, though I do most stuff with headphones these days...
... and as a bonus, we get visitors! Baby brown tree snakes underneath the house. (It's a raised house, with the music room being on the ground floor...)

Re: Music rooms...
Real nice Johnny, lots of room to spread out eh?
You could do a band setup in there very easily too.
Anyone locally you could hook up with to raise a little noise?

Re: Music rooms...
Not really, Barry; there's an awful lot of Australian country music played here, which is trite and just plain awful; there must be rock covers bands out there, but if I'm honest, I don't have the energy to go looking!

Re: Music rooms...
Wouldn't mind a visit to that jam space. I gotta stop playing long enough to clean my room for pictures.

Barry's playground
I would take some new pix, but the only thing that would change would be the guitars out on rotation, so, here are a few that I've posted here somewhere before . . .
There is a ceiling high rack to the right, just out of range of this pic, which holds another 7 guitars in hard cases for a current total of 36.

Ooooh... nice kit!! Does grandad need his pipe and slippers to go with the chair?? How can you sing sittin' down, man - I need to be standing?!
I should never have sold my old Roland Cube; love the super cleans the thing had, and have a soft spot for Yorkville PA gear; my first PAs were Yorkvilles and were mega!

Not so much the slippers n pipe as the brandy and/or wine!corsair wrote:Ooooh... nice kit!! Does grandad need his pipe and slippers to go with the chair?? How can you sing sittin' down, man - I need to be standing?!
I do stand up on the few occasions when I sing these days. But my lead singer energy level has become pretty tame since the stroke though and it's mostly ballads or moderate pop rock, nothing like the Don Henley or Billy Joel levels I used to do. I got into the habit of not projecting like I used to, for fear of triggering another episode. Totally irrational, but it's buggered up my old confidence level.
Sitting down does help with the left hand positioning for the stuff that isn't cowboy chords. . . bloody arthritis has made the fingers stiff and slow and the base of the thumb makes it painful to do barre chords without some extra stability and leverage.
We're both lucky buggers to have what we have though eh?
Can't play like I used to but that ain't gonna stop my love for playing!

Re: Music rooms...
I hear that! Yeah; lucky indeed.... I have dodgy shoulders and knees which I've gotta be a bit careful with but otherwise I can manage most stuff I used to do; I was never that much of a showman!! I always fancied doing Ritchie stuff, but you need talent, chops and balls to do what he used to do, eh: I have neither that sort of talent, nor anything like his chops... even in my pomp!! :-D
I can certainly understand not wanting to stroke out again, Barry; I'd be taking it VERY carefully indeed... irrational of not!!

Re: Music rooms...
Nice and airy there, Warrn... is it a dedicated music space or do you share it?

Re: Music rooms...
Some of the instruments there belong to my housemates, but I'm the primary source of noise in the room. Working on getting a new band together.

Re: Music rooms...
Very cozy...um, would this be the "living room" in another universe?

Re: Music rooms...
My landlady called it the "great room" and there is a living room at the other end of the house, haha. But you could call it a living room if you wanted. There is a nice couch!

Re: Music rooms...
If it has Westones in it, of course it would be a "great room".

Re: Music rooms...
Hey John, you've mentioned the humidity factor in OZ before and the effect it has on the guitar's metal components (strings mainly IIRC), so I'm surprised to see them hanging on the wall and exposed like that.
Very handy for playing but are you not concerned about corrosion?
My biggest problems here are dust, especially in winter, and higher humidity in summer (we're Lakeside). I keep my babies in cases/bags for protection.
And what about your electronic recording gear, how's it holding up?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: Music rooms...
It could be a concern, Barry, I agree, but I figure that room is cooler than the main house and as long as I keep up the maintenance, I'll be right!
The thing is, right, I like looking at them; that Vantage Invader has beena case queen since I got it, and probably long before my ownership as well: now it's out and proud with the rest if the pointies!!
And I'm so much more likely to use them if they're out....

Re: Music rooms...
I thought that I was doing pretty well having a dedicated music/hi-fi/my-TV room upstairs but my take away from this thread is:
- I need a dedicated room just for music
- It needs to be far, far, larger
- 12 guitars simply isn't enough
- Move to the antipodes, the weather is nicer

Re: Music rooms...
Yep...
1. Well, duh!! Of course you do!
2. I got a little lucky with this one, but yes... it does!!
3. Nope... not even roughly!!
4. That's what I did!! As much as we loved Jersey, we like being warm...
I tried to get enthused enough to do the media room thing as well, but we have computers everywhere here; my old mac, a newer Mac upstairs, the boy has his gaming machine and there are many tablets and smartphones so I figured I spent quite enough time sitting on my big, fat sucker and binned the home theatre idea!!
