pics missing from old post
Hi,
Over ten years back, i did a rebuild and posted the pics here:
https://westone.forumotion.com/t467-thunder-1a-earliest-circuit-type-rebuild
The post has survived, but the pictures are missing. Does an admin know why that is?
I've been asked about the build and was hoping to show them the post. Without the pictures...
Thanks
Chris

Re: pics missing from old post
Hello Chris, I'm not the Admin but have Admin credentials (long story).
Geez, 10 years ago? And you honestly thought nothing would change eh? We're just now breaking in the second Admin since Polly was here!
Here's the poop as well as I see it:
First, understand that images are not stored on the Forum, never have been. There is no database for that.
Instead, when you posted an image you actually inserted a hyperlink pointing to your image host site which displayed either the full image or a thumbnail of it on the page.
If a link becomes broken, or you deleted the images from the host site, or the host site is no longer in service, or if your host account was cancelled...no picture will appear.
I had a look at the code behind your post and there is no trace of any links at all, so I cannot tell where the original pictures were kept. Perhaps the links were auto removed by the Forumotion's operating system, we have no control over that sort of thing. If you deleted them from your original host site thinking there was a copy here, sorry, there never was.
Over the past 2-3 years several of the better known free hosting services like Photobucket, changed their business model and no longer support hosted images for free. Some members have either lost images, or been held to ransom, or have had to download their images and relocate them to another host site.
It's always wise to keep copies of valuable pictures locally. Never rely on someone else to protect your important digital stuff. Especially a "free" service.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't expect anyone to protect my images, and I do have them still. I was just hoping they might still be where they were added, directly in to the forum, as the post makes little sense without them. I shall pass on the images and my notes on what was done, thanks. C.

Re: pics missing from old post
As explained Chris, they were never added in the first place, only linked out.
It would much appreciated by the membership if you would be willing to edit your original post and re-establish your links using a new hosting service.
The host of our forum, Forumotion, offers free image hosting for members on their site srvimage.com.
Many of us switched to it when Photobucket turned evil!
