Thunder 1A switches Empty Thunder 1A switches

Post by Ian D Wed Mar 18, 2020 12:44 pm

Hi all
New member here - I have just acquired a Thunder 1A from 1984, but the phase switch toggle is broken
I guess all the switches are the same. but does anybody know where I can get a new one ? I would like to get the flattened toggle to match the others
Either that or a few hours with a file !!
All the best

Thunder 1A switches Empty Thunder 1A switches part 2 !

Post by Ian D Wed Mar 18, 2020 12:55 pm

Hello again
Lack of knowledge on my part
The broken switch referred to above is actually the Pre-amp/EQ switch, and they are not the same as the others
Any ideas ?
Cheers

Hi Ian,
In future, please don't double post on the same subject. It makes it confusing to follow the thread of the conversation.

Just continue in your original post Wink

(I have merged your posts--Barry)

Those ones that Westbone pointed up are the lads you're after!
Over here, you can get them at Jaycar, so the electronics purveyor of your choice wherever you are should be able to help!

This is exactly what I need too. I’ve just picked up an 84 T1A bass that has had the phase switch replaced. I think it’s wired wrong though as when it’s engaged only 1 side of the pickup works.. it’s fine in passive or active on mode so I know it’s not the pickup or preamp.

Iain, have a look at the T-IA bass wiring diagram HERE

These little buggers are always getting snapped off. No wonder Mats (and everybody else) finally went to push/pull pots!

Westbone is your man if you're in the UK. PM him.
Failing that, Google is your friend. Use the specs in this post and find a convenient supplier. It's a fairly common part.

I have a 1985 Thunder III Bass with the Magnabass pickups and the Active on/off switch has a broken toggle (which from this post seems a common issue).  Is it the same mini DPDT ON-ON spec for the Thunder III?

Hi Westbone. I need all three for a 1983 thunder 1a guitar. Preamp, coil and phase switch.  Also a pickup selector switch. If you can help that would be brilliant

A switch is a switch. Any dpdt will do the job if you wire it the same. Same on the pickup selector. Any switch that fits will work the same if you wire it the same.

You can buy the original switches from eBay and places but why spend $40 on a 40 year old part , when a $1 part that's brand new will work the same (probably better because it's newer).

Forgive my ignorance but what type of mini toggle switch do I need for pre amp, coil tap and phase, are they on-on or on-off-on or what. I understand they are readily available but want to ensure I get the correct switch for each of the three. Thanks in advance

I am 90% they're all dpdt on/on switches given that they only switch between 2 options.
