What makes my bass so heavy?
I have this wonderful Westone Electra bass with the extra fretless neck. I love everything about this bass except that it weighs a ton. What makes it so heavy? Is it the finish? It seems the finish/paint is very thick. I was thinking about stripping the body and refinishing in black again. Does the finish of the bass a big part of the tone. Also I wonder if this would diminish the price of it. I hear this model is worth a lot.

What makes your bass heavy? Solid Maple!
No, the finish does not contribute significantly to the overall weight. The tuners probably weigh more.
Yes, it is a rather unusual and collectable model.
So No, I would not strip the finish unless it's a total mess.

The Spectrum LX Bass I believe they are heavy because of the solid maple body (almost unheard of in any other guitar)
It also gives it that fantastic depth of sound that nearly always sounds too loud for every other musician but a bass player.
I believe stripping it off and refinishing might well wreck the sound quality.
I have two of them. Bought one in about 1993 from a store in London and was lucky enough to find one on Ebay late last year that is in lovely condition but needed a new battery holder. Guy selling it for his band after the bass player passed away didn't even know it was active. Said the bass player hadn't used it for years having upgraded to a Fender jazz. Yeah right lol. I will weight both mine and see how they compare and get back later. Goes hunting for fishing scales.
Nice to see them still about. Apparently they were only in the catalogue for about a year or so.
