Head-stock serial number

Does anyone know how Westone painted the back of the head-stock with the serial numbers being able to show through?

Stencilled it on under the clear coat, probably. I used a waterslide decal under the clearcoat on my Raider....

Most I think were stencilled, but my prestige has been stamped in then painted. 
I need to refinish the back and neck so will be acquiring a number stamp set, filling the stamped numbers with gold paint, sanding flat then clearcoat over

Though not until I get my tailpiece back

The mold I did was a big fat fail.
I am going to give it one more go this weekend.

I will ship it back next week.  This one has a more complex shape that the other things I have been molding... I have an idea though and I think it will work
