Spectrum series 2 neck
I recently got mybseries 2 out of parent's loft after it being there for over 20 years. The neck is ruined. Where can I get a new neck? It was a great guitar and I want it to be great again. Please help. Cheers
Jamie

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
There is a split just below the headstock and the fretboard has separated below the nut on either side. The split is quite nasty. I really need a new neck. It's a 24 fret neck.

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
That's a shame, these are great necks.
is it beyond a glue and clamp job?

Unfortunately not. I just confirmed it is a SP6II2. Need a new neck for sure.

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
I don't have a spare neck nut I do have a sp5112 I'm looking to move on (again) same blue as the one on the website here http://www.westoneguitars.net/guitars/spectrum-series/spectrum-series-ii/
It's a little battle scarred but nothing bad, the headstock had a split in the join which I glued/clamped and has been fine for years, new switches and a fret level and polish.
Plays well with a low action.

I'll think about it. I have another guitar that I play regularly. I might try and track down a similar neck.

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
Hi jaimie
Damage at the head stock is not an unusual occurrence for "pointies", or Gibson style guitars.
These can look nasty, but as Sgt Vimes has already mentioned, almost all these splits are easily repairable with a good quality glue and clamping, and the resulting bond is greater than the original wood in that area.
If the wood is completely shattered then that could be a different situation but from what you've described that is not the case. And the playing area of the neck is untouched so would not affect player comfort.
I would seriously consider a repair, especially if you truly love the neck. It will be more satisfying than trying to find a proper replacement.

The solit is just below the neck, running along the grain of the neck. I've been considering trying a repair. I think, though, it will be hard. Worth it, but hard

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
How about a picture or two so the choir can comment a bit more intelligently?
A split with the grain is a good thing and should glue up nicely. It's much preferable to a break across the grain which can be very difficult to correct.

Re: Spectrum series 2 neck
Thanks for the pix. As Damian concurs this should be a simple repair.
You do not have any catastrophic damage there, just some fret board separation and a simple stress crack. The board can be re-glued and clamped, and the crack can be stabilized using some thin CA (super glue) which is "wicked" into the joint.
Take a look at Dan Erlewine's StewMac videos to get an idea of what's involved.
