Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to piece together my 1988 Spectrum 2 SP5112 Sky Blue 6 string. I was too ambitious years ago and dismantled it thinking I would add actual Floyd Rose etc. Needless to say I am missing the following now;
1. Black Bendmaster Trem and bar
2. Bridge humbucker
3. The 2 cover plates for the springs and controls on the back.
Can anyone out there please help me locate these items? I loved that guitar as a kid and want to hand it down to my kids as I remembered it.
Thanks for the help,
Mike in Detroit

Hi there, Mike and welcome!
Does the BD have to be black? The bar is available from Stewmac as "bar, 6mm, imported" or similar and the cavity covers you can DIY with some black 2mm sheet plastic and the bridge pickup can be anything you want it to be, eh?!

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Thank you Corsair!
I was going to put a SDuncan Éclair humbucker in, which I actually did just after I bought it. I have a Chrome bendmaster now I was just trying to find the original black. That is a good idea about the cover plates and I will try it..

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
I've got one in black, but I've also got 3 in chrome... Have you priced up the cost of getting the chrome one electroplated in black?
I scratched back a chrome Deluxe ages ago and then etch primed it, and shot on a couple of coats of gloss black with a clear over the top and it seems to be doing OK...
Your Duncan is a fine replacement, man - wouldn't be too bothered about replacing it with an OEM pickup unless originality is where it's at for you... in which case, go hard!!
Folk have made those covers out of all kinds of stuff, eh; those DVD cases seem to be a popular choice! I bought some 2mm hard, glossy plastic off eBay and very carefully cut and drilled it. Slightly dull drill bits work better than new, sharp ones and get a plexiglass blade for your jigsaw and yoy're good to go...
Would you be able to post a photo or two of your guitar so we can see what you've got? I have a CL4112 Clipper in Sky Blue which over the years has turned into a lovely shade of teal....

There is a 7 day wait period for new users before being able to post pix or hyperlinks. It's a way of weeding out would-be Spammers

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Common problem with the Bendmaster Deluxe.
The higher gauge strings you use the more force goes onto that piece. especially the E, A strings.
Pays to bend a right angle when fitting new strings before tuning.
Unless you do massive dives with the trem it will be fine.

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Hello, does anyone out there have the wiring diagram for the bridge humbucker for a Spectrum SP5112?

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Yeah, mate; that'll be apples, eh - those wee tabs are there to stop the strings coming right off the saddle during stupidly epic dives, so if you don't do stupidly epic dives, you're golden!
Wiring should be straightforward, if it's like my CL4112; I'll check it later on today, but shield to earth, and the two coloured wires will go to the on/off/on microswitch.

Not yet, but by chance it is out on a stand at the moment so I'll crack it open at some stage today and take a photo or two....

Rightio... this is the beast in question...

.... and here's the guts;
.... the two core grey wires are those coming from the two coils of the bridge pickup - this isn't a true humbucker but 2 separate singles nailed together.
Hope this helps, mate!

Common problem with oxidation. Easy fix. (Do not use WD40!)

Re: Spectrum SP5112 parts needed
Nice!! That colour should be Sky Blue but - like mine! - has faded to a lovely teal.. pretty!
That pickup switching is pants, eh; what's wrong with a 5-way?? Only gigged the Clipper once as those tiny switches are a nightmare onstage with sweaty paws and stage lighting...
