Any Quest fans out there?!
I first saw these in 2010... been looking for one since! Well, finally found one.
This is a Japanese made guitar, rumor has it that Quest was perhaps a spin off of Vantage? Anyhow, it's a 1983 with solid Ash body and coil taps. Love the look! It's blend of Explorer and Destroyer.
Should be in hands this time next week. Can't wait.

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
I like that.
I've had an Atak 2 and Atak 5 recently, but let them go.
I'd be interested in if the pups say MMK and if there is anything stamped on top or bottom of the bridge...

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
Yes, "interesting" series of guitars, and they do seem to be associated with the Vantage line (somehow).
The other model series that often pops up in Canada, mostly in Quebec I think, is the Manhattan, a funky looking bad boy with an unusual body shape.
Our pal, Frenchy, has a few of these IIRC, but he tends to hang out in his "favourite" forum at the Mats site.
Hey Pierre, if you see this jump in mon ami.

Barry, if you see a Manhattan, let me know! I'm curious how this thing will sound. Legend has it that they may be associated with Cushin (did I misspell that...)?

Yes. I'm pretty sure the"wacky" line of Vantage guitars are all made by Chushin.
That bridge is a big give-away. I'm guessing it may say Chushin underneath.

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
Saw that, pretty cool. Same guitar but mine has the hardtail (which I'll take over a strat style bridge).
Adey... right on, that's what I'm thinking. The bridge seems to be a Chushin Gakki thing.
We'll see how it feels in hand. Of course I'll completely disassemble it upon reception. Otherwise it won't feel like "mine". Lol!

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
I was labeling the "Quest" range as the wacky ones.
If anyone's looking for a Quest Manhatten, there are a couple for sale on Ebay in US at the mo. But a bit pricey...
$1000
$650
and have a butchers at the bridges on them - "wacky range"!

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
Well... it is a great guitar. Build quality to feel to sound... all great!
EXCEPT the warped NECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has a slight hump at the 2nd-3rd fret and another one at the 15th fret. So it can never get flat enough to not give serious buzz.
Turns out that this is a Chushin Gakki thing. They used green wood. Washburn Wing series were a victim of this as well.
So broken hearted, I must return it. l loved it and wanted to make it work, but...

Gotoh pups, nice rich, full sound, almost Les Paul sounding. Super comfy neck. Warped, but comfy.

Sorry to hear the sad neck news. I am still very much enjoying the green one and the black with maple neck version I scored from you.

If the Quest wasn't the wrong side of the pond, I'd be interested in trying to sort it out.

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
Adey, I thought about the same thing... I'd need to refret with jumbo frets and shave them down where the slight humps are. And even after that then the truss rod wouldn't adjust properly, it doesn't seem to respond well.

I even cleaned it up, it's completely detailed. Looks amazing now. I should have checked it over thoroughly before spending 2 hrs cleaning it, lol.

Re: Any Quest fans out there?!
The 1984 Quest Atak-6 MK II Electric Guitar is among my favorite shaped guitar.
It says online that Quest was made by Matsumoku as the non-traditional line of Vantage.
Interestingly the comments say the necks on these Quest Ataks regularly suffered from warping a few weeks after getting them home so that many ended up in pawn shops who don't seem to care.
Sorry about your warped neck chad.
