Any Marshall fans/haters on here?
Just ordered a Marshall JVM205c. 50 watts, all tube, 212 combo with mixed speakers. Gets great reviews. I'm excited. This will let me get my overdrive straight from the amp instead of coloring it with pedals.
We don't talk much about amps, so does anyone feel any kind of way about Marshalsl?

Just another amp, AFAIC!!
Once you've run your signal through FX, most amps sound the same to me!!

Re: Any Marshall fans/haters on here?
It was a quiet day at the shop today so I took a few grab shots of our Marshals in honour of Chad's query:
Look familiar Chad?
We use this one constantly for demos, etc. It's always on standby...View Specs
Some other heads and stacks just, you know, hanging around:
The little head on top left (below) is a 50th Anniversary JTM1, one of a series of releases this year commemorating (what else?) 50 years of Marshall. The "1" in the model number stands for 1 watt! And it drives any of these stacks with conviction! Unbelievable what it can do. Read more about the series here: VIDEO DEMO

No, no, no my Marshall challenged friend! Chad's point was that he does not need exterior FX pedals....'cuz they're built in! Seriously good too! But I get your point. This thing kicks serious arse on clean too!corsair wrote:Just another amp, AFAIC!!

only the old (pre 2000) ones are good. new ones are unreliable.......spend too much time in the shop. particle board cabs, etc.

Re: Any Marshall fans/haters on here?
At the shop, we have seen a fair number of faulty tube/valve Marshall's (and VOX's for that matter) in recent months. We send our malfunctioning amps out for repair and more often than not, ironically, it's bad tubes which are the culprit!
Probably speaks more to the quality control of the tube supplier than the amp manufacturer methinks. By contrast I have a '65 Danelectro still functioning fine with the original tubes!

Re: Any Marshall fans/haters on here?
Whoa Barry, nice shop!!! Thanks for the pics! Something about Marshall's mystique is just that, the mojo of Marshall that we were all raised on seeing. But they do sound the biz, I'll say that.
And you're right Barry, I got this so I wouldn't need OD/Distortion FX! And you're also right John, amps do all kinda sound the same with FX thrown on! An amp loses character that way, doesn't it?! I completely agree. That's why I was so hopeful for my Carvin V3M. It had tons of character online. Guess mine was just a lemon.
I'd read somewhere about the Marshall tube problem. I've got some JJ ECC83's hanging about the house in case I need them, though.
And about that ROLAND, there's a new one out there, the GA 212. I really want to play with one... looks interesting.

I am a Marshall dealer and welcome the chance to bid on your business. I will try to beat MAP, but of course we will not disclose the prices publicly.
And now for some pics of my shop. I see a common theme here: Les Paul, Marshall, and slatwall:

Funny, there are a couple of MG15 amps behind Wes and Jay in the pic, you just can't see them. I think they are the ones with reverb.

Re: Any Marshall fans/haters on here?
I love a decent quality Marshall amp. I have a 1 X 12 valvestate combo made in England in 1996 (VS 65). Great amp - good quality electronics, reasonably tough. Sound: 9/10. The way its currently set up we can get spectacular cleans and of course the real dirt.
It really shines for rock/metal. None so fine as the chugging noises that we get out of this amp. I have an eminence Governer in there which helps - actually a huge improvement over the "Marshall" labelled speaker that was in there previously.
