Home built partscaster Empty Home built partscaster

Post by Sgt. Vimes Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:39 am

Just want to show you folks my first partscaster build, completed a few weeks back.
1 piece ash body bought from Booboo guitars on the bay, unfinished and the "reject" is a small routing error in the trem spring cavity.
The neck is from NorthWest Guitars, though I bought it "nearly new" locally for a fraction of the price.
Pickups are Voltage Pickups Vicious set, and bloody nice they are too!
Scratchplates, jack tray/switchcraft socket all from Northwest Guitars again.
Wiring loom from a 70's Fender Japan strat.

1st coat of Tru-Oil, no grainfilling as the open grain is pretty minimal.

This was a PITA as the oil soaks in quite some way, took a fair few sanding sheets to clear the bugger!.

The neck sits a 1/2mm too high in the pocket, but lacking a router I don't fancy taking the required wood from the pocket for fear of screwing the whole thing up, playability is outstanding as is so....

Hey Pete your pix are being blocked in my location. I had a look at your URL's and they are massively long! If I copy and paste them into the browser I get a 502 error so I don't know if this is a temporary problem with Google's server or you are somehow using a restricted access URL.
Can you double check your links please?

Nope... I can't see 'em either!

I'd quite like to, as well; I'm considering a Tele bitsocaster with P90s after I finish my Avenger rat and am always looking for ideas!

Steve... mate!! Good to see you back on the boards, man!!

Tinyurl makes no difference. I'm seeing the universal symbol for "No Entry".   Evil or Very Mad

These url's are being blocked for reasons I cannot determine (something to do with Google Docs permission I'm thinking).

OK thanks for the broken links heads up,  I'll see if I can fix it after work.
In the meantime here's a link to the album, might be better.

Thanks guys.
There really was no skill involved,  just selecting the correct sized parts, lots and lots of sanding and about 10 coats of tru oil.

Si it plays very much like my spectrum,  mostly due to the neck pocket being slightly higher (1/2mm) than it should be.
It sounds so good though,  the  Voltage pickups are really nice, quite snappy and plenty of power on tap should I need it, though I've been playing it with the volume rolled off a little for some well balanced clean stratty goodness.

I bought a rosewood neck first off, but the heel didn't fit the body so I have this spare lovely neck, all I need is a body....tuners....scratchplate....bridge...and it all starts again! Bloody addictive so it is.

Ah, there we go. Nice little git.
I too love the tortoise shell on natural finish, it's a classic look.

Wilkinson make pretty darn good hardware and electronics. 'Ole Trevor knows wot he's doin'.

that gigantic hangar is actually still in existence, and is located at Moffet Air Force Base, only a few miles from my home.

Are Dirigibles are making a comeback? What else would you use these hangars for?

Geetar Storage!   lol!   what else!?!  Don\'t Know

i think the point is that a simple airplane hangar would never be big enough.... Twisted Evil
and the same goes for some others as well, it seems

and to further illustrate the point, here is my latest collection-of-extra-parts-that-became-a-player Chores 2

Home built partscaster Ry%3D400Home built partscaster Ry%3D400
body from guitarfetish factorybuyout, neck + tuners by Fender/Starcaster (Indonesia), classic style trem bridge is new (korea), pearloid pickguard + spring cavity cover, pickups are seymour duncans, 3-way blade switch, volume, tone, 3-position mini switches provide coil switching (North/Humbucker/South) for each pickup

all the parts were leftovers from other failed- or otherwise abandoned projects.

plays great, sounds great!

quite happy with the result actually  Wacky Cyclops  Yay!
