Out of interest guys...how are we looking so far, I know it's early days but are we on target to cover the next two years fees yet or could you do with a little more (disregarding the prestige bass for the moment)?

I think we're well on the way here, thanks Si, and no; those who've contributed need not dig any deeper at the moment. Once I figure out how to do the necessary with a screenshot, I'll show y'all where we're at.

Earlier in the thread, Barry posted that the cost of the hosting package was as follows:
1&1.ca Managed WordPress Hosting
BASIC PLAN
First 12 months $0.99/month, or,
$11.88 + 13% HST = CAD $13.43 year
...then $6.99/month the following year, or,
$83.88 + 13% HST = CAD $94.78 year
Total for 2 years = CAD $108.21
The PayPal balance of AUS $258 equates to about CAN $255, so by my reckoning, we should already have enough to cover the next three-and-a-half years or so

Re: Westone info site
Seeing as it's been deposited in an Aussie account.
If it's sent again to a Canadian account we're paying pay pal fees again. Is that correct? Fook pay pal.
If it's sent again to a Canadian account we're paying pay pal fees again. Is that correct? Fook pay pal.
Clarification
OK simma down now. Let me try to make it clear one more time.
Yes, the contract has been set up and the first year is now paid for @$0.99/month or $11.88/year.
That's the introductory discount rate, which is why I chose this plan. The difference from my estimate, is that they are not charging any taxes (normally 13%), so that's an unexpected little bonus.
Going forward, as predicted, we definitely have enough funding for year two, and now, year three by the look of it @$6.99/month or $83.88/year. (Not sure about taxes on this full amount, but there likely will be).
Beyond that it depends on whether the host company changes it's rates, and of course we're all at the mercy of the world economy and changing exchange rates, but we're looking very solid for a fourth year as I write this.
And yes, the collection account is in AUD which means there are conversions going in from your donations, and another conversion out as I withdraw in CAD. Fees and conversion losses/gains are going to be inevitable but let's relax here, this is not mega bucks in a Swiss Bank we're talking about. It's only a couple of hundred dollars to be distributed over 3 or 4 years.
Nobody is getting ripped off and John and I are being completely above board with the information. When we started this it was agreed to use PayPal and we were looking for small donations from many members to get through about a year's worth of hosting. But you folks have out done yourselves and gone above and beyond expectations. You're just an amazingly warm and generous group and I am honoured to be a part of such an extraordinary world wide collegiate.
So, we are now able to relax....at least until the next crisis comes along!
Thank you all!

Mini Update
First of all, thank you for the continuing contributions!
That will more than ensure that there's ample funding for a long time to come!
So, to recap where we are currently:
When the dust settles, both the website and the domain name will reside together which will make management of both much easier.
And once again, a big thanks to Neil Smith who was previously donating resources for everything, and has been currently looking after most of the transfer and configuration details for us behind the scenes.
That will more than ensure that there's ample funding for a long time to come!
So, to recap where we are currently:
- The website has been successfully relocated to a Canadian host server from its original home in England
- The domain name (westoneguitars.net) which was originally registered and hosted in California is currently in the process of being transferred to the same Canadian location
When the dust settles, both the website and the domain name will reside together which will make management of both much easier.
And once again, a big thanks to Neil Smith who was previously donating resources for everything, and has been currently looking after most of the transfer and configuration details for us behind the scenes.

All Done!
The last piece of the changeover is now complete.
Our domain name, westoneguitars.net, has been transferred to the new host and now resides with the same contract as the web site. Everything under one point of administration.
And Neil has now bowed out of the technical background, at least as an active participant, but he has offered to be available as a consultant should we need his assistance with anything.
He is also a member here, although he's not been very active for quite awhile, but he plans to visit from time to time to talk geetars. We look forward to welcoming him back!

Re: Westone info site
Thanks, Barry!!
Ok, troops - and I sincerely hope there is, in fact, a few people out there!! - the cost of hosting for the *forums is up again, and, as in 2016 - where the hell did that time go?!?! - we're on a funding drive.
As before, we use a Paypal a/c and Barry then dips into those funds to reimburse himself as the hosting charges come off his credit card.
The Paypal address is
westoneinfosite at gmail dot com
.... so, please, if you've got a fiver, or a ten-spot or whatever you can afford, we'd surely appreciate it.
The downside to this is that if we cannot get the requisite funds together, then the *forums will have to be put on ice; not sure how that would happen or * how we would save the data but it is a possibility....
* EDIT (sorry John)
What we are talking about is our Website, westoneguitars.net, NOT these Forums.
The website and its domain name costs us money, this Forum does not.
The information on the site is maintained and backed up by yours truly. But the cost is in the hosting of the website. Without that platform there is no website. --Barry

The PayPal account is in Australian dollars but you can send any native currency and PayPal will convert (and take a small %).
I withdraw it in Canadian dollars and the exchange is similarly converted.

I considered that, but in the interests of continuity and for those not around during the last fund raiser, I thought it might be helpful to know what went before and how it was handled if they were so inclined.
I purposely set the banner link to go to the relevant post in the thread which explains that this is a new campaign. That's the same as what happens when you receive an email update notice for any forum thread and you go to the current post in that thread.
So far the response has been encouraging (thanks again!) but of course more contributors are always welcome! The more we raise the longer we can go before having to ask again.
