Best guitar riff
And the best guitar riff is... Led Zeps "whole lotta love" or rather Robert Plant's, according to the UK.
But F me Bonham was so good.

Re: Best guitar riff
Hmmm...
Smoke on the Water? ( the way Ritchie does it, not the way generations of kids in guitar shops do!!)
Star Hotel? (not so much a riff, but a very cool phrase in Fm which modulates to Gm and defines the song)
All right now?
Black night? (OK... so I'm a Ritchie fanboi!)
Back in black?
Summertime blues?
No more Mr Nice guy?
Woman from Tokyo?
Living loving maid?
Sharp dressed man?
Radar Love?
Sylvia?
Gimme some lovin?
Rhiannon?
I could go on and on, there are so many memorable riffs and phrases and I'm betting everyone has a favourite or three!
Come dancing? (the criminally underrated and forgotton Dave Davies!
Rebel rebel? (the criminally underrated and forgotton Mick Ronson!)

Re: Best guitar riff
So this is poking its ugly head out the sand again huh
All of the above, and a million others!
Jack White alone must have 20 contenders, Josh Homme also.
too hard to put a finite point on this one as it's an ever evolving carousel of riffmaking and chop chucking, but for my money this week it's.......Black Dog.

Re: Best guitar riff
By definition, a riff is short repeated musical phrase which, in my case
Also sometimes called, or a part of, the musical "hook" which makes pop music memorable/irritating. It's what sells, but it doesn't necessarily make it good methinks.
- gets either stuck in my ear hole until I play it out on the guitar
- or which causes me to cringe and yell at the source because it's so damn irritating I can't stand hearing it again. e.g. Satisfaction, Crazy Train...etc., ad infinitum.

Re: Best guitar riff
Ok I should have explained this topic better.
The UK have voted the above as the best guitar riff. Who was voting is a mystery to me. Last few days this has been pounded all over the media here, so I thought Id chuck it up for debate. Not about what is the best riff and endless lists but why the UK should pick this riff.
Now I want to change subject. Surely NATO have a HQ where they can meet? Why are they going to an ugly hotel in Newport? Why are they having social events in Cardiff? There were 4 helicopters floating about for around 2 hours outside work this lunchtime. How much has that cost me?
The roads in town have been chopped up with security fencing so the bigwigs can have lunch in the castle and summat in the college of music. Havent they heard of justeat?
Anyway while I type this little rant around 7 or 8 noisy things have flown over, one is still there.
What is wrong with video conferencing or having meetings like this on a military base?

Re: Best guitar riff
Yup, heard all about the UK pronouncement over 'ere too. Hence the *yawn*. May have more relevance to the UK than the rest of us. These "best" lists are always problematic.

Re: Best guitar riff
How about David Gilmore's lead solo Comfortably Numb? Wouldn't that also be in the running?
Re: Best guitar riff

Re: Best guitar riff
Uh oh, I have to include Judas Priest.
You Got Another Thing Coming, The Sentinel, Livin after Midnight, Hell bent for Leather, Electric Eye, ...The list goes on and on... up to Turbo Lover anyway...
My two cents!
