Danelectro Paint Match
Well it seems I don't have enough misery on my plate these days so I end up looking for it!
I pulled out the Dano today to have a quick play and check on how the new bridge is holding up (very well, thanks for axing). As I was giving her the once over I started fixating, again, on the several paint chips in the finish. The worst one is on the top of course. This a "before" the bridge replacement picture to show the chip.
If you're interested, you can read the whole bridge replacement saga with pictures HERE.
What's been frustrating to me is that I cannot find any references to the paints used in the production of the reissues. The only reply I received from Danguitars a long time ago, was that they were a custom mix just for the reproduction runs and no touch up supplies were kept. So I'm somewhat buggered, and not in a nice way.
In the interim I've tried living with a bit of acrylic nail polish but it was whatever the wife had in the drawer and I haven't gone seriously with it to a cosmetic counter to try and match the official "Cool Copper" colour. I'd feel a little weird trudging into the beauty department with a guitar but that but it might be the only way to find a match. I'm not sure what the original paint is but I'm guessing acrylic.
The one above is the worst and there are few minor dings on the neck plus one more and a couple of scratches on the back.
Any ideas?

Barry - There is no shame in hanging around the nail polish counter. I am sure that most of us have done it. Take your guitar with you as concrete proof that you are not a big Jessie!!
By the way, I don't think that there is a nice way to be buggered. When you are buggered, you are buggered!

Mate, take it into a paint shop and get the colour matched, and then either get a rattle can or a tin!

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
I thought of doing that John. But I'm not terribly confident that the places 'round 'ere can create a rattle can of the stuff I need.
And it is a tiny amount needed too eh?

I have more somewhere....my 13 year old daughter thinks its disturbing I have more than her
and if the nail varnish mixing pallete can't get it, my son's collection of acrylic warhammer paints is handy!

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
Even if you get an exact paint match, a metallic touch in will never quite match as it has not been sprayed on. Also you are probably talking $25 for a can, of which you will use a drip.
I would persevere with nail polish.
(We cheap bastards need to stick together!!)

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
Is there something you would like to share with the class, Sgt?!
Barry; you won't know unless you try, eh; and it's all done with a spectrometer these days - that gear only needs you to place the article being matched on a platform of some sort! And I have to say, if I can get 100% colour matching here in rural Australia - and in southern NZ many years ago!! - , you'll be quids in Canada

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
Cheers lads.
I'll have another think on it tomorrow, after I've thawed out...I just put out the garbage and it's bitterly cold still, about -10C plus a wind chill. Spring my RRR's!

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
Any decent as you call it 'auto paint' shop will be able to match that up.
Should also be able to get a match pot for not many $'s.('cause you're tight.. )
A shop near me will mix a £5 small bottle of paint which is plenty if spraying small jobs(touch ups) but also ideal for brush application on little chips.
By the time you add thinners it's double the amount.
Considering that some nail varnishes cost a small fortune. Ask Vimes...he's got loads....

Re: Danelectro Paint Match
Yeah thanks Damian. I've not used them before but they're one of several in the area. The one I have used has changed ownership since, so no idea if they're as reliable as they used to be.
