Replacement Spectrum FX jack socket

I'v just had a rummage around inside my new (to me) Spectrum FX and have come to the conclusion that the jack socket is knackered. About 98% of the time I get a loud buzzing noise and cannot hear the guitar at all and the other 2% of the time after I have wiggled the lead in exactly the right way I can hear the guitar (and very nice it sounds too) until I move again very slightly and I'm back to noise again.

The wiring to the jack looks fine which makes me think that the jack socket itself is at fault. The socket is different from those on the other Spectrums I own (3xGT, 1xST   ) - I had intended to cannibalise from the ST. Instead it looks like a cylinder-style jack like the one in the link below:

This calls for a 12mm mounting hole.

Does anyone have experience of replacing a jack socket on a Spectrum FX, if so would this be a suitable replacement ?

All cables also work in my other guitars.

Guitar was sold stating that the jack had problems.

Cool!! I've not seen that but I suspect a couple of mine have such a socket. If it looks right then straight replacement seems "the go"...

Sounds like oxidation. These closed jacks are a bugger to access, but they sometimes respond to a squirt of contact cleaner and/or a rolled up tube of fine grit emery cloth.

That's assuming it's still mechanically sound. But if the contact points are fatigued and have lost their "spring" replacement is the best option. The one referenced should do fine assuming it fits the mounting hole.

Thanks, I've had the old one out this afternoon and checked the size of the hole - it's 12 mm. Frankly for £7.40 and five minutes of my time it's a no-brainer so a replacement is on its way. I'll hang onto the original "just in case"

Sounds like you had a bad earth on the old one.

Fine wet 'n dry and a shot of switch cleaner.

They tarnish up from lack of use.

Generally speaking, it seems like just about every "replacement" item around is cheaper in both cost and material.

Practically nothing matches the quality of the original MIJ parts, especially where Mats is concerned.
