Post by Hyperion Sun Jan 11, 2009 9:11 am

Hi,

I wrote this article about Westone on a french MiJ guitar forum : http://www.guitarsmadeinjapan.fr/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2364 .

I'm using some pictures from forum.westoneguitars.net, I hope that nobody will be offended Smile

If someone wants to translate it , no problem for me Smile

Cheers
JP

Edit : I did the translation, on this thread :
HISTORY

If you are able to get this translated, can you post on here please?

I did my best but my schoolboy French (come on, it was a long time ago!) wasn't up to the job.

All best

Nice try there Jean-Pierre! cheers

I just love the way that Google has translated some of it! Laughing

That last bit kind of got me flummoxed though.
scratch To coin a phrase, my schoolgirl French is 'Norfolkngood'! lol! lol!

Incidentally, have you checked out all the info that is on Westone.info? David who owns the site, has a wealth of knowledge on the subject and it might be an idea to give a reference or a link to his site on your French forums. I wouldn't go pinching any of his information without his permission though!

I added the link, I just forgot, thanks Embarassed

It's true that some information is grabbed from his website, but I believe that information is free, at least as long as we are still living in a wonderful world...

Please feel free to comment on the article, grab any information from it, and send me ideas of improvement Very Happy

Above I did the translation, enjoy !

Hello Jean-Pierre, Smile

Just a friendly word of advice on this one; I'm not sure but I think that David's information is copywrited so just to be on the safe side, if I were you, I would still get his permission. I'm sure he won't mind you 'borrowing' it if you ask him.

Well done though for taking the time to put it together.

Thank you also for the translation at the end of that, I'm afraid my schoolgirl French ain't what it used to be!

Yeah, Polly's right - David's info is copyrighted so permission is a given. It's also good manners....

And while the article is good, it misses a couple of points; one , the Spectrum models, which don't even rate a mention!!, would have been the models that most of us as youngsters come across, and that there was much more variation and experimentation in the Spectrums than just about any other model! Also, many, if not all, of the Signature models were Korean-made, and not Matsumoku which doesn't make any difference to the article, per se, but as written - or translated!! Laughing - it is intimated that Uncle Matt endorsed Reb Beach!! No Does anyone actually remember Winger... lol!

Copyright applies to "copy" of information, and I haven't copied anything literally. Anyway please send me David's email address , I will send him a friendly message Smile

I will add something about Spectrum models , please could you point me to some usable photos ?

Thanks Smile

Hello again Jean-Pierre, Smile

If you wish to contact David, you can do so directly via Westone.info. It would be pertinent of me to give out his personal email address without his permission.
I think perhaps that any information on his site is his own work and he may not appreciate it being used, regardless as to whether or not the wording had been changed slightly. I would not like it if someone used something which I had written without first obtaining my permission, which would of course be granted, but only before it had been used.

We have an unwritten code of conduct regarding this type of thing and everybody has the courtesy to honour that, which I am sure you will appreciate. I would not like anyone to be offended by what I have just stated and I only mention this to protect yourself as well as David. I do hope you understand.

Check out this page.

The address given should be preceded by "Admin" which ought to get directly through to David.

Actually, you can get to him via the spares, website or contributions tags, eh! Don't get us wrong, Hyperion - to have a potted history is great; well done! - but before we were here, we were at David's forums - which he closed - and all feel a little, well, protective of what he's built!
When you talk with him, ask him if you can use some of his Spectrum pix; he's got some beauts.... Smile

Hi Polly,

Don't worry Smile I sent him a friendly mail yesterday. I hope he will get it, as I used an email address which I found in the spare section of the website.

If you know his personal email address , I can send you a copy of the mail so that you can forward to him , ok ?

Hi,

I got David agreement, and contribution : see the spectrum section of the article.

I also added a paragraph about the 2 production periods I have identified in the history.

Cheers
