A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electra-Outlaw-X710-Matsumoku-Prototype-/271126556428?pt=Guitar&hash=item3f2066ef0c
For those who are not fully versed on these beasts they can be very fairly described as an SG + LP + "take your pick" killer all rolled into one... and that is just the describing to production models that have been available to the hoi polloi such as you and me. Truly a rock solid build, pure granite all the way.
For all our gab here about model rarity of different production models given the rather esoteric nature of "our" brand to begin with, THIS IS a day-old hen's tooth by comparison.
... just be ready for a wrasslin' match with Arthur goin' in, 'ya dig?

curious he mentions "He has authorized me to sell several instruments from his collection for him". I would love to know what else will be available.

Let's just say that other inquiring minds are working that very avenue as we converse...
And Sarge, fugly or no ( and I am going with the no angle here ) the sound is quite heavenly indeed!

Other inquiring minds? Hopefully they share the dish!

Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
That is butt ugly.
Some of those wiring configurations are definitely prototype and pretty much unusable.

Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
Ugly is in the eye of the beholder and this one models has been called everything from ugly to a potato sack guitar but the tones it can produce and the playability are really awesome sort of a beauty and the beast I guess. This Outlaw models Rocks hard and fast.

Yep, fugly alright.
But, it is a prototype after all. And I'm sure Tom was more concerned with the electronics and sound at this initial stage. The aesthetic form would have been refined after the function was all worked out, I have no doubt.
Hey, at least there are no barrel saddles!

I love the Outlaw loook - thats why i own one. They are built like a tank, weigh a ton, and are crafted beautifully. This one is missing the wicked cool bowtie neck inlays. I could see how one could consider them fugly, they are quite a unique geeeetar!

If that truly represents the shape of a loo cover over there across the pond, all I can say is take care not to rush things for fear of catching sumptin' somewhares...
Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
Wouldn't even use it as a toilet seat. It's so butt ugly.

No need to furrow your brow in concern mate, that is far removed down the list of my worries.
And for the record while I was never much a fan of the look of that particular guitar, I did see it in a Beck video once and it did seem a perfect fit to the eclectic style of his music.

Yep, some would say she's ugly, kind of funky looking, maybe even "gross", but she has a nice smile and a great personality!
Wait till you see her brother! "Butt Ugly?" You guys can do better than that!
Be well and Happy New Year!

Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
By the way, a couple of you have asked if there are going to be any Westones auctioned. Answer, not at this time.
I've located my Spectrum 12 String, the original Pantera (my oldest son has that one) and the original Spectrum kit body. I will be getting back my White Pantera DLX with the Bendmaster from Trevor and his Rainbow with the "no F holes" that he borrowed 16 year ago!
I did finally pull out one of the 6 pre-production Matsu Leslie West models and am considering putting that one on E-bay.

Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
Wow Tom... it is amazing to hear that those early models are still about. The Spectrum 12-string!?!... Sarcaster and Corsair will be over the moon to hear of it. Pics would be very awesome.
As there will be no Westies for the moment perhaps it would make sense to spare these fine gentlemen from anymore drama or excitement and continue on in your threads over at the Electra Forums. I can assure you that as far as the x120 goes I have always been a big fan.
I will resist the temptation to cross-post anything new you might wish start there...

Re: A piece of Tom Presley history on the 'bay...
I'm curious if it was an Electra forum member that placed the winning bid on the Outlaw prototype. I thought the guitar was a beauty, but that's my 2¢ (and about all I could have bid on it). Hope Tom will post photos of the others mentioned... let the LustFest begin when he does

After re-reading the entire thread I can see how it has gotten off track, notwithstanding my intentions of just having a laugh towards the end here... what can I say, Damian dials up the crazy in me.
While I have never really gotten into the style of the Outlaw, after having checked one out locally on CL last year I was pretty blown away by the tone and just plain guts the model has. Unfortunately that one didn't work out as the seller was looking for more than Tom got for the one he just auctioned on Ebay, but one day I will pick one up.
So congratulations Tom and I am looking forward to checking out the other guits you may be moving on soon.

With all due respect, Damian; no, I won't!
I know it's all in good fun etc.etc. but it does get very tiresome to read through the crap to get to the nuggets...
