Price of a corsair
I do not know what certain westones are actually worth and I could use some help or knowledge. There is a red Corsair it is a 1987 Westone XA1430CR IT IS ON Ebay, I really like it but is it worth $279.00? To me that doesn't seem to much but I just don't know. Any help? Thanks Ben.

Re: Price of a corsair
Well made Korean Westone but the pickups leave a lot to be desired.
The top is a maple veneer not a solid cap.
I found the pickup switches a little fiddly and not at all impressed with the sound. Sold mine on.
That particular one has been for sale for ages.

Re: Price of a corsair
I don't mind the Korean pick ups; I reckon the other blokes are just being picky! These things - if my Koreans are anything to go by! - have just the best neck profile ever.... my Spectrum SP1012 is my playing guitar, the one that hangs around ready to be handled....

Re: Price of a corsair
The one I tried also had a great fast neck, with medium frets.

Re: Price of a corsair
They might have a nice neck but that's personal taste.
The pickups played clean are bland and characterless.
Your SP 1012 is a different beast to the XA1430 in question.

Guitar wisdom... feel does have a lot to do with it, but you won't love a guitar if you don't love the sound, it just won't inspire you to play and you'll walk away each time disappointed.
Damian has owned one and he's speaking from experience. Although John is right, sound is in the ear of the beholder to a degree.

Aren't you contradicting yourself a bit there, my dear?
Anyway, the difficulties of buying a guitar you haven't been able to try...

What you on about?
Suggest you read the post. I've owned the model of guitar in question and sold it on 'cause it sounds crap but maybe, just maybe some folks might like the neck. Personal taste. Dip Stick.

nononono, you're getting it all wrong. At least I didn't mean it the way you understood it.
I know you have tried the guitar, my remark was just a generality: it is harder buying a guitar without trying it than after having had a play on it.
Now for the "contradiction" part, your message seemed to suggest that necks are personal taste but pickups aren't. That's where I see a contradiction.
I don't much like being called a Dip Stick either.

Re: Price of a corsair
Easy, fellas.... Let's keep personal attacks to a bare minimum, eh?!
Actually, I have to take issue with the bland characterless accusation as well; if a thin fast neck is a personal preference, then surely, so is the sound being made? I appreciate that you've owned one of the guitars in question, but come on; I've owned an LP that absolutely killed but another that sucked balls, but I wouldn't draw broad sweeping generalisations from that, it's just that one wasn't quite what I expected!
And comparing MMK equipped guitars with non-MMK is not totally valid, either

Re: Price of a corsair
Yup
If the playability of the neck is subjective then so too is the sound from the pickups.
That is what makes this little world of ours interesting - personal opinions and preferences.
Mark me down as a dipstick as well if you like!

I take it all back for calling you a dip stick, your a very nice man a very, very nice man.

The sound from an XA 1430 as far as I'm concerned was crap.

You can call yourself what you want and thanks yet again for stating the obvious.

Just for general reference in the future I prefer "low oil indicator"... m'kay?
Re: Price of a corsair
... and back OT; I, too, find the pick up switches a pain in the arse - backwards way of doing things!!
