I wondered what Amps you guys are using?

I just picked up a Peavey Deuce VT cheap, 4 x 6L6 output valves and a nasty solid state pre-amp. Its for my Punk band though so it met the requirements
The other two in the picture are an Orange Tiny Terror and a 70's Laney Supergroup Head.

These days i just use my little Fender Blues Jr. i dig the tone and its easy to mic onstage, when i play gigs which is few and far between right now (hope that changes soon). Plus i practice at home so i don't need a loud amp. Sometimes i'll bust out the old Crate 990 series from my metal band years in the early 90's with 2 12 inch speakers and tear it up!

I have an old, gnarley Crate gt-200 that's always served me well. Dirty channel is horrible, but that's what pedals are for.

Have a Peavey Vypyr 75 with Sanpera II footpedal. Like alot.
Have a Carvin V3MC absolutely love it. Also use a BBE Sonic Stomp in the effects loop. From super cleans to down right nasty over drive. Everything between. Great little amp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1972 Holden 100 reverb combo, with Holden 4x12 cab.



That's the amp at the back.... It's a great old thing , NZ built with 2x KT88 and 4x ECC 83. The main drawback is that weighs as much as a small planet and I'm not as young as I used to be!! With that in mind, I was going straight to the PA when I stopped playing out.

Over here, just to have something to play through, I bought a second hand Gear4Music 5W which is pretty noxious, but I've grown to quite like it, so it's going to Australia with us!!

I also use a valve amp but imported from China, its really good (has been modified), 30w which is plenty. Wheres Racing gone, he has the same???

Not nerdy enough to list the components cos they dont matter if its not designed and made right or the valves are from the wrong factory.

Also have a 15w valve job but dont use it much cos I need to re-engineer it a bit. Had forgotten about that so need to get on it.

Lastly have a Vox AC30 combo solid state. The amp is absolute sh11te but the Celestion speakers are great which I use with the first amp above.

Effects, use a Boss GT-10, not the same as proper stomp pedals but great for mucking about.

L to R - noise gate, power supply, phaser, flanger, EQ, chorus, pitch shifter, digital delay, distortion, overdrive, power supply, compressor.

All bar the pitch shifter and compressor very old; Boss were the only FX you could get in NZ when I was a tyro!!

I also had a Peavey Backstage Plus for over 20 years until about 3 weeks ago.

I sold it to a retired gentleman I met at my luthier's shop who needed something for his son to use over Christmas as he was getting leave from the Air Force and the guy had no electric amp at home. He was getting a '51 Custom Shop Tele given the once over before wrapping it for him..... How was your Christmas, BTW?

I didn't mind so much as my wife also has a CRATE G-40C (by slm) that routinely kicked the $#!t€ out of it anyway, I was just too lazy to bring it upstairs for the picture.

AMPS:

Peavey Bravo 112, crackin' little amp. All valve 25 watter. With a Celestion G12 speaker

Peavey Bandit Transtube 112, used daily in the workshop. Good amp though, reliable.

Fender Twin 1990's. Only gets used occasionally.

Selmer Treble n Bass, 1960's croc. skin 50 watter. Sounds fantastic.

Selmer T n B 1970's Silver face with reverb 50 watter. Both the Selmers are heads.

Traynor MK 3 80 watt head with all the trimmings, reverb, tremelo, 2 channel master volume.
Weighs an absolute ton.

Highwatt 4x12 100 watt cab, with G12 greenbacks.

2x12 cab with G12 greenbacks.

Almost forgot, Marshall JCM 800, 2203 100 watt head. Original one.

WEM 18 watt Dominator MK III,all valve, as new with a 15" speaker. It's not bass amp.

I just like exploring different FX and if i see any pedal going dirt cheap i'll buy it. Keeps me amused for a while.
A couple of them are home made Fuzz Pedals i built myself, turned out quite well for a first go.

I have a VoxDA5 for home use.

I used to run small valve amps, but for the sound I need in the soul band I play in the Cube is fine. Light, portable, loud.

I no longer play in a band and since having 3 kids space has become very limited. I don't need loads of volume so I have settled with a VOX VT30 modeling amp with an old Boss BE-5 multi effects. This modest, inexpensive little setup gives me everything I need for home use, late night, low volume guitar practice. It is also easy enough to transport round to my mates for the occasional drunken Jam session.

Those Vox's are excellent amps. Sold mine to a buddy who uses it gigging regular.
There's a lot to play with, presets and such. Just that he needed an amp quick and I'd found this little Peavey Bravo.
So a deal was done. I'd also fitted a Celestion upgrade speaker in the Vox makes quite a difference. Can't remember what speaker it was but I'll find out.

Yeah, a few of the larger VOX models we have come with optional Celestion's (at a premium). Bloody good box too! Sound best with Fenders though, to our ears at least.
What of Gibsons? Well that's another thing. Marshall's! A match made in heaven methinks.

Funny you mention Vox with Fenders Barry.
Also sold my buddy a Squier Standard Strat, upgraded pots and all that. He was trying it out through the Vox at the time and thought it a great sound.
He uses both for live gigging and gets plenty of favourable comments.
I'd added a pukka Fender logo to the guitar and folks mention how good it sounds. If it still had the Squier logo they might change their minds.
