Re: bluesman w/ a westie
Now THAT is a juxtaposition of opposing styles which result in order and harmony, IMHO.
Nice dig, CCJ.
I am going to plead unfamiliarity on this one. Is this gentleman a homegrown talent to your region of the south?

You gotta love that whole "cross-genre guitar" thing, eh... and the tracks alright, too!! Nice catch!!

Re: bluesman w/ a westie
Ive seen this guy play a few oddball guitars.
He played some angular Peavey thing at one time too.
Theres also a clip of him playing a nice sunburst MIM Tele on a porch somewhere too.

Re: bluesman w/ a westie
Wow! Made my head spin around a couple of times!
A pointy guitar ain't the first thing you think of when you consider the blues.
Very reminiscent of early John Lee Hooker's sound to my ear.
Just shows to go ya, the Blues is in the fingers and the soul...not the guitar!

Reminds me of R L Burnside, particularly the guitar tone and approach.

Wasn't he a general in the Civil War or something?

I believe you are thinking of A.E. Burnside there, big guy...
Re: bluesman w/ a westie
R.L. is one of the best Hills Bluesmen (vs. Delta kin) that I can think of. American civil war history is beyond my expertise. Perhaps R.L. was old enough to have served in the Boer war, but I digress.....

Ah, whatever. I still like my story better. That guy had some wicked side burn action going on too, if I recall.
Oh yeah, and to stay on topic... Westone something or other.

Re: bluesman w/ a westie
Burnside's name became the term for the style of facial hair he sported. Massive sideburns down along his jaw and attaching to his equally massive mustache, but a clean shaven chin. So if you shave only your chin, but not the rest of your facial hair, you have a burnside. The Chad wrote:Iceman wrote:The Chad wrote:anaerobe wrote:Reminds me of R L Burnside, particularly the guitar tone and approach.

When I retire and no longer need to "look presentable", I'll be sporting eccentric accents such as these. That is if my tastes don't change by then. But they say that as you age that you stay the same person inside (you just get smarter and hopefully more wise) and only your body changes, so my tastes shouldn't change too much.
