Due to Barry's prompting and popular opinion.
These arrived today. Quick delivery as always from GFS. Ordered on the 13th, arrived on the 24th. Not bad from the US.

Well, I remembered reading somewhere (thought it was the gfs site but apparently not) that the VEH's output was low and required boosting the level on the amp, which would have meant that combining it with anything but VEH would turn out tricky. But this was a while ago and the more I read about the two PU you've chosen, the better your choice looks. The fat and crunchy pats might have been too heavy with a classic II.

Just thinking out loud though as the only GFS I have tried are the power rails (muddy in neck position) and crunchy rails (excellent in bridge, as long as you crank up the level).

Can't wait to hear them!

VEH's are on the hot side, coming in at 11.5 thereabouts. MMK 45's are around 10.5-11.00 on average.
And I just like the sound of alnico II magnets, as in the classic II. They read approx. 7.5 , nice PAF tone. Smile

Definitely, I think it's nice to have extra oomph in the bridge. With guitars that have "pairs" of similar pups I am always expecting more power when I switch from neck to bridge (though I can't complain about the MMK 45, they are so darn sexy).

Stuck it altogether.

It's not perfect as this old wide grained ash 'breathes' and even after all these years still has air in the grain.

Painted with nitro-cellulose.

Still have to wire it up.

1 volume, 2 pull/push tones with phase reverse, series/parallel.

Looks a little smarter than an old Thunder.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement.

I have had Entwhistles at 16k Ohms which sound more like Pafs and at the other end of the spectrum, miserable little Gibson Melody Maker pickups that would tear your head off at around 4 or 5 k Ohms. It is the Henries that do the damage in my view.

Well thank you jim

I've always been meaning to do it. Just finding the time and yes that post did kick start the seed again.

It's all wired up now.

1 volume, 2 tone with pull/push series/parallel on each.

Haven't had a good play on it as yet. Needs setting up, particularly the brass nut as the frets have been redone.

Initial sounds are good. The bridge pup has a load of Henries:lol: and drives the preamp valves into oblivion.

Neck sounds sweet.

Will set it up properly and give it a good try out.Twisted Evil

Never seen brass tuners.

There's a bronzed type going about but have a darker tarnished look.

I was thinking of changing the tuners but didn't fancy throwing another £30 odd at it.

There's plenty of cheap gold tuners but not any cheapies like these.

hipshot tuners look really good, with a price to match. but they have what you want one piece at a time. so if you need 3 x 3, or 4 x 2, or 6 x 1, on either side, you can get all of what you need, and none of what you don't.

Ah just bite the bullet and finish her off with some nice gold tuners. You can always tarnish them a little to better match the brass. And you could even glue little birdies on there!

Sure would finish her off well...

To get you photos back, can you sign up for the basic account, re-save your photos elsewhere and then cancel your account again....
Just supposing...

That's exactly what i've done.
See what happens as they'd lost a good few about a year ago.

This is the result after paying a subscription, what a bunch of C****s.

Dear ImageShack User,

It is with great displeasure and regret that I have to inform you that we were unable to restore your missing images. We did all that we could to restore the images, but unfortunately with no success. At ImageShack we understand the importance and sentimental value an image can hold. We are truly sorry for our mistake and your loss.

Best regards,

ImageShack team

You've cancelled

We just hate to say good-bye!
Well, we guess this means farewell. We will dearly miss you. If you change your mind, and we hope you will, we will welcome you back with open arms.
Thank you for the time we did spend together.
Best of luck,

The Imageshack Team

What an absolute shower of sh*te!

Rubbing salt in the wound, I know, but it shows the importance of keeping a backup whenever you can - all this 'cloud-based' malarkey is ripe for disaster in this old Luddite's mind...

Absolutely right!
Cloud computing...I don't trust it for a minute.

Back in the bad old days we used have something called Client-Server configuration. The "Client" (you) was a euphemism for "slave".

Shocked  That's appalling.... you've gotta think that Imageshack will go under in this day and age with that sort of attitude; too many people connected by the web to piss about with that f****d-up worldview!
