The guitar is nearly finished now but I have had a crisis of confidence over the wiring. I will be visiting my Guitar Guru soon to seek help with this issue!

cheers

Hi, I have just added a long post about re-painting the body at Guitar Collecting

I have actually got the guitar rebuilt and playing now, but its buzzing like a b*stard so I'm not sure if I have screwed up the wiring, or the pick ups are dodgy...to be continued!

More likely to be a dodgy earth somewhere, OR the neck relief needs a tweak 'cause the strings are buzzing!! Don't give up now; you're SO - O - O close!! Laughing

Hi Corsair,

Its not the neck..it's playing great!

Just my dodgy wiring..I'll be stripping it down and analysing each section later.

Hello all, just to let you know the next installment of the Thunder 1-T is up on my blog, Guitar Collecting

The guitar is actually finished now...it plays great, but I'm still having some wiring issues, buzzing from one pickup in particular. Oh well..I'll sort it eventually!

cheers

Everything's shielded, and the control cavity cover's earth is connected to the main earth? (Probably teaching grandma to suck eggs, but just making sure!!) And yes, please, put the guitar up here for us to see, man!! Very Happy

Hello again, sorry it's been a while since I updated this saga. The Thunder is now complete and is playing and sounding great. I am currently writing a final "finishing off" post for the build blog at guitarcollecting.co.uk blog but I have decided to sell it. If anybody on the forum is interested I am giving you all first refusal, best offer over £175 and its yours. I'm in the UK, so any international interest will have to consider postage too.

Since blogging about this build I have been contacted by a mail order company called GetMusical, and asked to restore a Westone Cutlass for them. I picked up the guitar last week and it's not in bad shape..I'll post pics later. The idea is that I'll blog about the rebuild and GetMusical will also promote the build up. The finished guitar will then be offered as a competition prize, (probably through Total Guitar magazine as I know the editor) hopefully generating some publicity for us both.

I'd welcome your thoughts, as always!

Nice! And on with the next project, eh - good for you!! The Westone Cutlass is a Sid Poole guitar not a Matsumoku and there isn't a lot known about 'em so anything you could flick this way would be appreciated!!

Good luck....

The Cutlass rebuild is now underway (actually, it's finished, but the blog is a bit behind). This is one great guitar. I really love the Cutlass..totally different to the Thunder, much more Strat like, but with a personality of its own. I believe they were around £500 when new, and the quality shows..I can't stop playing it!

The first rebuild article is here:

And I put togther a little history of the Cutlass, with all I could find out, here:

Cool!! What's with the control cavity not being shielded, I wonder? They look to be a nice piece of kit; keep us posted! Westone Thunder 1-T Rebuild Icon_smile
