Re: Thunder I rebuild
That's appalling.... you've gotta think that Imageshack will go under in this day and age with that sort of attitude; too many people connected by the web to piss about with that f****d-up worldview!

On the old UNIX network we had at work, said clients were called 'dumb terminals' - seems like that's where the direction of travel is again these days...

S.O.B.!
In a desperation move, I had a look at the Internet Wayback Machine in the hope that they might have archived the Forum.
Unfortunately, all they have is the Main Menu Forums page, not the actual Posts in those Forums. I guess Forumotion (the owner of this free site) has specified that this content not be archived.
Sorry folks.

Just in case, I have copied all my photos onto my Microsoft Cloud account.
Probably less chance of that going kaput in the near future....

Re: Thunder I rebuild
you can buy your own backup drive with 3 TB of memory for only $100, even less if previously used.
amazon
gigabyte - a unit of information equal to one billion
terabyte - a unit of information equal to one million million

Re: Thunder I rebuild
I did use a hard drive for back-up, bu when it crashed I lost all the data in it.
Even though Microsoft may seem like the bad guys, they are really basically ok. Having the market share is always going attract negative publicity.
Having built a couple of data centres, and got the basic gist for how the cloud works, I think I'm fairly safe.
Otherwise I might have to pop off to snappy snaps with a usb stick....

Any chance of using a recovery program on it Damian, or has the camera been used since?

Dear ImageShack User,
It is with great displeasure and regret that I have to inform you that we were unable to restore your missing images. We did all that we could to restore the images, but unfortunately with no success. At ImageShack we understand the importance and sentimental value an image can hold. We are truly sorry for our mistake and your loss.
Best regards,
ImageShack team
Re: Thunder I rebuild
I would recommend that services such as these be used strictly as a convenience for file sharing (cut n paste for forums, etc.) In other words, you're uploading copies only and always keeping the originals. And, as recommended already, on a local drive (or two) separate from your operating system, which can also crash.
Relying on someone else to store your images is placing your faith in a situation over which you have no control.

Re: Thunder I rebuild
Absolutely Barry, quite agree. There's one thing to be wary of, though: older storage devices can become obsolete. I was using a USB external hard drive for years until it no longer worked with newer versions of Windows. I have also used CD-Rs to store photos and videos, and it looks like they are on the way out already.

Re: Thunder I rebuild
I have mine on CD and Sandisk drives, as well as in my computer. Oh, and Photobucket.
And may I say again... GOOD LAWD that's a gorgeous guitar! If it weren't for international shipping, I'd make an offer that you must refuse.

Re: Thunder I rebuild
Big, f***-off stand alone hard drive here; 4TB plus the Cloud, plus anything that has extra special value is on various flash drives stored away from the house. The desktop is backed up every month.
I'm paranoid about losing data, if simply because there are home movies from the 80s that I sent to DVD in the 90s and then ripped onto the Mac which have my mother on them who died 7 years ago, my hunting buddy who died in 2014 and my older children.
