Pickup readings... Empty Pickup readings...

Post by corsair Sat Jun 11, 2011 6:46 am

I've just pinched the neighbours' DMM and had a measure up...

MMK75 - 8.21Ω, 4.09Ω split (spare; possibly Pantera 350/390)
MMK45 - 11.75Ω (APII U60)
MMK45 - 10.75Ω (APII U60)

Gotta say; those 45s are hot as - which would be neck, do you reckon? 10.75Ω??

And the 75 seems a little low; Damian - or anyone who has 75s, is this figure a true representation of the resistance?

The MMK75's in my Rainbow 1 settle at 8.26 on the neck and 8.47 at the bridge

That's why the 75's sound so, so sweet. Plenty of clarity. Smile
Much the same as old Gibson PAF's, around the 8.5 mark or thereabouts.

The pole spacing should be different on the 45's. Obviously wider at the bridge.

What's under the plastic cover on the 75? Post a piccy.

Purely for the sake of curiousity I'll ask.

Seems in general that humbucker paired guits will always be arranged with the slightly hotter hb in the bridge position. Just a case of "that's how we've always done it" or what?

Not always the case. In the old days(those were the days, lol) they just put pickups in, any order, pole spacing was the same for neck and bridge, old Gibbo's did that for years. What!

An explanation of cause is not justified by reason Smile

The usual explanation is that there is less string energy at the bridge (it doesn't vibrate as widely as the neck). To compensate, the bridge pup is hotter. geek

That makes this a Neck p/up at 8.27 Pickup readings... Dsc00010

Which means I'm looking for a MMK75 with a reading of 8.47 + or should I stick with the Dimarzio at 12.75 :?:

Though advise is would be appreciated, a Bridge MMK75 would be even more appreciated & that's all I'm saying for a bit Very Happy
