Rainbow.... maybe??

God help me, I was just watching the video of" True" - Spandau Ballet - I was bored, OK; pommy TV is appalling!!! - and at the very end is a shot of Gary Kemp who seems to be playing a white Rainbow. I've tried Youtubing it but the clip there is about 20 seconds too short; the bit that made me sit up and take notice was right at the end!!

Anyone confirm or deny????

Yes that's a White Rainbow, very rare. Popped in a local shop (Romford) and they had a very good one for £250. Offerd them a washburn falcon as a trade in, The ;king salesman wanted to give me £45. for the washboard. I walked out in disgust. Should have swallowed my pride.

It did look stunning... I only saw it very briefly; have you got a better pic of it??

Check on U tube, the author is, furigen 95, works ok for me.

We have a winner; thanks bro!! Shame there isn't a decent close up of the headstock, but gee; they look GOOD in white!!! I'd have a white one in a heartbeat - could care less about them normally!!

A Westone Rainbow for sure looks like an early version script logo longer headstock etc.... oh and diving further into the depths of nerd territory it's Martin Kemp playing the Rainbow who was actually the Bass player in Spandau Ballet..... his older songwriting guitarist brother Gary Kemp is on piano in this vid.

the song True was released in April 1983 so this Westone Rainbow would have been a brand spanking new guitar back then.... NICE!!

He was likely trying on his orange jumpsuit and got carried away in a fit of nostalgia!

I was aimlessly channel-surfing and found the vid on a channel over here called Scuzz, which is normally a heavy metal channel and just got a glimpse of the white guitar which piqued my interest... had to watch the whole thing to see if there were any better shots of it - there weren't, but that live clip that Westbone linked to is not the one I saw; it's way better!! For guitar spotting.

Besides, o worthy ones, which of you who have performed onstage hasn't done a balled like this as a panty-wettener?? Hmmm???

Yup, I was the singer/front man/rhythm guitar guy. I'm seen playing my Gibson ES330 and Westone Spectrum ST in the vids and pictures.

I'm sad that there are no videos or real pix of our later "big band" (6 members) from the 90's.  BY then we had changed personnel and got pretty damn good too.

Doubly sad since a year ago I lost my dearest and oldest friend and band mate of 50 years, as well as two other members.

Everyone was playing Fenders (except Mickey who also had an acoustic-electric Takamine). I was the odd ball with the Westone and Ovation!

It was an experience like no other. Lots of fun, yes, but hard work too.

Met lots of talented people and played in some remarkable places, like, uh, a nudist colony...outdoors! (insert your own joke here)

Hi I have just registered for this forum because I was interested in your discussion of white Rainbow 1 guitars.  You say they are rare-- I have one, in its tailored Westone case.  I bought it in Walthamstow in the 80s.  Here's a picture

Welcome Paul!  Glad you found us.  What's the back story of how you found your Westone?

Yes welcome Paul, and please post lots of pictures including your back story. The serial number would also be helpful in dating its release too.

Hi.  Nothing special about how I got it.  I didn't know much about electric guitars and still don't, but in the early 80's or could have been even late 70's I went into a music shop in Walthamstow, London - Allan-Gordon Studios - and saw the white guitar.  Got it new and was also talked into getting the Westone case for it.  I have not played it much as I am more a classical guitarist- but I like looking at it.

It would be great to know more about it and to help- here's the serial number 2111914. Ta everyone.

The serial number puts the manufacturing date at 1982, probably in November.
