guitar - Guitar Nut Buster Empty Guitar Nut Buster

In a recent post forum member TFi2397856 was showing us how he used a non-OEM stringlock on his Spectrum. The kicker was, it was floating on the strings behind the nut and not anchored to the head stock at all! affraid

He took some heat from a few members, including yours truly, who pointed out many flaws in this application. Evil or Very Mad

Most of those objections still stand.
HOWEVER...imagine my surprise to find that someone has actually made a floating string lock! And it would appear to work!

The company is Guitar Nut Buster (and no, that's not a naughty reference to an ex-wife/girlfriend) Crying or Very sad

I was skeptical until I watched Darrell Braun put it through its paces.
I came away shaking my head in disbelief. Maybe you will too.

You would have to have a real urgent need for one of theses things though. AT USD$175 it ain't cheap!

I'll be buggered!!! Fairly simple principle of using the overall tension of the stringpack to keep everything right....

Not sure how much fine tuning you'd get, but that is seriously clever, if a touch expensive. It no doubt helps if the guitar is a good 'un, too!!

Not what sprung to mind when I think of Busting A Nut

Surprisingly seems to work quite well
So wouldn't a normal nut lock work the same in a floating arrangement but just not have any fine tuning

TFi2397856 claims it does, but I'm still not convinced any old unit will do.

This design is quite deliberate in its depth, and I presume, its weight, which would assist in keeping it stable. And as mentioned, it helps more than a little to start with a well built guitar. In TFi2397856's case the Spectrum fits that bill nicely.
