Westone Prices
Is it my imagination or are Westone prices going though the roof
I'm in Australia and there just don't seem to be many bargains out there
I have even scanned Reverb and asking prices for Concords Paduaks Prestige Pantera and Thunder all seem to be double what they were a couple of years ago
Oddly enough I have seen a couple of bargain Rainbows and Spectrums but already have what I want in these
Am I losing it or are they on the rise ?????

Re: Westone Prices
They HAVE gone thru the roof! A number of nice Wessy's are on a few platforms here in Germany with a nice Spectrum ST with a Bendmaster Del. @150 Euros being the most reasonable. a couple of single PU basses also around 200. A Concord III just went for 300. Everthing else has an asking price over 400.
I'm seriously considering the ST, but I need to replace my cell phone...

Re: Westone Prices
I've been associated with Westone GAS for quite a few years now, and we do seem to regularly see a bump up in prices.
I think it is because a new generation of players discovers the quality and playability of Uncle Mats' creations and like anything else the demand goes up.
That's good for the Forums because it attracts new members seeking information, but not so good if you're trying to buy a Westie.

Re: Westone Prices
I agree that the prices seem high, but how many of those with a high reserve are actually sold, I wonder?.
Anyway, I'm just thankful I'm not in the market anymore, though I do idly peruse eBay, Craigslist, Trademe and the local Facebook marketplace to see what's about.... and it appears to be very little in this small part of greater Sydney!!

Re: Westone Prices
There's 2 Thunder II basses on ebay just now, fretless P/J and fretted P/P. £1500 for the pair.
Can't see the seller getting anything near that, last month I paid £300 for a spotless Thunder III P/J.

Re: Westone Prices
I think a lot of people know the quality of Uncle Mat stuff and know there are guys like us out there. I know I overpaid for one of mine but it was exactly what I was looking for, I still own it and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Ultimately, it'll only bring what someone is willing to pay.

Re: Westone Prices
There also seems to be a lack of availability, at least here in the UK. If demand is steady or rising, that would tend to drive up prices.
There used to be 100+ Westones on eBay, these days there seems to be a third of that number.
My interest is Spectrums and I managed to pick up a rough ST for £50, two decent (but worn) GTs for around £100 each and an FX that needed a couple of knobs and a jack socket for £90 all around 3-4 years ago. I think I'd be hard pressed to find that number of Spectrums at those prices today.
Then again, maybe these things are cyclical.

Re: Westone Prices
Have not seen many Westones locally in a very, very long time. Regardless of condition.

Re: Westone Prices
Pantera X275...
But still a the odd Mats or two - Westbury Deluxe, Westbury Custom, Vox Custom 24, and a Vantage 650 that has been on long term loan to a mate for about a year.
I tend to buy them, play them for 6 months of so and flog them off again. Some for more than bought for and some for less, but hobbies tend to cost money don't they?
Overall, I think I'm probably a bit ahead, just about, over the last few years.

Don't get me wrong, Paul - Hervey Bay was a lovely place to be, though I preferred Maryborough as a town... just be aware that the sea air will cause tarnish and string failure very quickly indeed!! " alt="" title="">

Re: Westone Prices
Yes that is the downside to coastal life. Many years ago my parents retired on the Coast and my Fathers panel beating tools were rusty in a few years. He restored most of them and wrapped them up in oily rags - A bit hard to do that with guitars

Re: Westone Prices
I've noticed this as well over the past decade or so. I remember when you could find a Westone for spare change, and a quick scan of Reverb earlier today... many of the guitars were in the $400-500 range.
As jorg said, I think the secret is out about these instruments. That, and a couple of YouTube "celebrities" who have spilled the beans, ruining our little party of affordable and quality instruments.
