Wiring Question - 86 Spectrum SX switch and pickup operation
Hello!
I recently acquired a 1986 Spectrum SX - this has 3 pickups (neck and middle single coil, bridge humbucker), 5 way switch, and single volume and single tone control (pop up coil tap for bridge p'up). This is similar to some other pictures/posts from this site and has what must have been a second series of wiring used in the MX and some of the SX models
https://i0.wp.com/www.westoneguitars.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/spectrum-MX-SX-alternate-schematic.jpg
-On mine it looks like the neck pickup isn't really on.
From tapping on the pickups to see which respond, going from right to left on the 5 way switch -
I basically have the Bridge humbucker all the way to the bridge side, then the middle/bridge, then the middle pickup, then a repeat of the middle bridge and bridge humbucker again all the way to the neck side.
The wiring looks clean and doesn't look to be altered, but I can't really tell. Does the described condition sound normal for these models?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom and welcome.
Yeah there does appear to be something amiss with your switching. You should be getting the same results as a 5-way Fender Strat setup (plus the coil cut option).
The wiring diagram you referenced above is from our website and was drawn by forum member gittarasaurus. Double check your wiring against it to confirm if everything is correct.
If the wiring checks out OK you may possibly have corrosion somewhere in the signal chain. Get in there with electrical cleaner and spray the pots and switch.
My SX is the trans blue one on the website. If you're interested, you can compare it and see the pup readings HERE
Let us know what you find.
