Westone Pantera Deluxe X350MA Empty Westone Pantera Deluxe X350MA

So we've talked about these, but I've failed to ask: Can any owner/member speak to the tone of the passive pickups in these, please?  I have passive EMGs from an Epiphone in a guitar and they're gawd-awful... muffled, over-distorted mess. Am curious how bright the X350MA's can be. Input appreciated... Reverb is tempting me.

By "passive" you mean normal magnetic pickups, yes?

Actives are powered electronic circuits, and mostly sound like sh!t, so you're right to dislike them. (For the record I cannot stand active pups, especially EMG's.)

Magnetic pickups work as a transducer converting magnetic string vibrations into electrical signals.

But concerning the Pantera's pickups, from our website:
The term “active pickups” used above is a bit misleading. The X350MA’s were actually were equipped with an active EQ (tone) control. The pickups themselves are passive.  In addition, not all the 350’s came with that feature.

Having said all that I do not own a Pantera so I can't comment on the pickup's tone. geek

The pickups are fine either with the passive or the active EQ circuit.

Nothing like EMG actives.

Check out the band Yes with Trevor Rabin on his X390 will give you some idea of the sound. Clear with good note separation.

From experience, swapping pup's isn't just the fit.
The potentiometer (volume + tone) value used also affects the output.
Swapping a high output coil from a 500K pot setup to a 10K pot will have serious side effects.

If your 'looking' at a X350ma they have 500k pots. If you want to change them, not that they need changing, that's your prerogative.

The higher you go the more trebles you let through.
