Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
I have an x250 Pantera..the locking nut was never good..the EA base of the nut would strip every time..not even over tightened..this was a lifetime guaranteed part through Westone..I redeemed the new part twice..always failed..ff twenty years..revamping the ol Pantera..what is a rock solid behind the nut lock or regular Floyd Rose style locking nut..from the FR specs sheet..looks like R7 is the ticket..what is the radius on the Westone Pantera head stock? The model r7 Floyd Rose specs on a 10"radius..and the trem unit on this Pantera is a Bendmaster Deluxe..

Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
I do apologize..it was late and this site is wonkie on my sm
art phone for some reason..
I have looked at some of the kahler stuff I don't think sixty is a fair price on the string director..when locking tuners would probably be about or less.. I have looked at Floyd Rose..and it seems as if r7 is the ticket..what is the radius measurement on the Pantera x250 (x275+)? I think this one measures the least in height at the nut but with the slope of the neck will it pull the head strings too much? I'll try to include some photos..Please and thanks..

Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
42mm is correct. 1 5/8"
The Kahler locking nut is perfect, has a wide range of string space.
It fits perfectly as fitted to the X390, will fit yours no problem.

Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
Why do players remove the locking nuts on guitars, then lose them, he muttered aloud to no one in particular?
If they don't have a flippin' clue how to use 'em then why buy the damn guitar in the first place, he continued to mutter even louder to no one in particular.

No one cares... ...and lets be honest Westone designed pot metal string locks are crap, probably get chucked!
Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
Yeah... they really didn't think that one through, did they?! Steel bolts in a pot metal base with ham handed guitarists on the Allen key - not an ideal combination....

I think they're made out of zinc... I've dissolved a few in sulfuric acid after losing my patience with them...

You made hydrogen then? At last, a green power source. All we need are Westone locking nut rejects!DimensionIV-addict wrote:I think they're made out of zinc... I've dissolved a few in sulfuric acid...

Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
Hey Damian...not that I'm looking to spend more money you understand, but I was musing about replacing the locking nut on the Genesis.
The original one is working fine (even lacking a shim plate) but it doesn't look as good as the rest of the guitar. I was wondering if these are the same necks, so a Kahler would drop in there?
edit:
Just remembered I (finally) have an electronic caliper now I measured the Genesis as 43.16 mm or 1-11/16

Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
Yep the one above will do, 42 mm... ...will have to make a new truss rod cover though. If you need one I'll send you one.
Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
Thanks for the confirmation and offer.
I'll just tuck that little tidbit away for later...you know, when my lottery ticket wins on Saturday night!

Your right the Westone type is 43 mm overall width but is governed by the nut= grooves in the stringlock.Barry wrote:Hey Damian...not that I'm looking to spend more money you understand, but I was musing about replacing the locking nut on the Genesis.

The Khaler as per the X390 is 42 mm. There's so much string scope on the Kahlers (no grooves) could try either 42/43 but I'd use 42 mm it fits. Only .5 mm either side and your thumb doesn't catch it when playing E up that end.
Can see how the nut and stringlock correspond regards the grooves.
Re: Replacement locking nut X250 Pantera
I still have the zinc base.. I've read the thread about putting the steel threads inside the base.. Then I need the nuts pads and shims..I did see a few weeks back a nut on eBay that was the Wunderbar lock nut..Washburn.. It was the exact same as Westone..but black on black..I asked the seller and he said that it was not magnetic and most likely zinc.. I saw the Kahler as listed above..but not really liking that style..Amy chance you think the r7 Floyd Rose would work according to specs? Looks like all the strings should line up with the original nut.. I tried r3 simply out of order error and the width and height were fine..the height of the metal nut was way too high.. Also string spacing was not correct..as best as I could measure the r7 looked good..just wondering the radius of the neck and that part working..I also saw the gotoh with the adjustable height Allen key screws..would that work? Just looking for a good fit..great function.. Something that won't fail..like the original part.. Thanks everyone!

Well you have the original and all the floyd measurements. There you go.
