Hallo to all.I am a new owner of a Westone Thunder 1A bass.I bought it for $20.It is not in very good condition but I am beginning the restoration. The only problem is the fretboard. I will convert it to fretless but the old one is not in good condition.Does anyone have  a neck for sale. Also the bridge is bad but i will replace it with a wilkinson WBBC black/bronze that i have.

Hi mumra and welcome here.
Pictures would be helpful when you're able to post. But it sounds like the fretboard is the problem not the actual neck?

If you are removing the frets it should be possible to fill and level the slots and any irregularities, no? I don't think you'd want to lose that neck.

Thanks for the answer.I was removed the frets and fill the slots but I am afraid that the fretboard thickness is small.that happens when I ll try to fill the chips from the fretboard.when I remove the frets.

I don't understand why the fret board would be too thin. Is it damaged and needs sanding down?

If the rosewood is badly damaged I still think you would be wiser to keep the neck and simply replace the fingerboard.

Sorry, I still do not understand.
That fret board looks like you have already filled the fret slots and chips.
Why would you keep sanding and make everything too thin? scratch

I fill the slots and after that I was sanding to disapear the chips of the fretboard. Thats why the fretboard now is thinner. When I finish the project I will play and I will she if it's ok.Thanks a lot

Hi mumra. When I converted one of my basses to fret less, I made a radius block to get the neck perfectly flat along the length. You can do this pretty much for free with some cement and a plastic bag! Your neck looks in need of levelling. Also, it looks like you've painted it?

thanks Clive.I have a 14" sanding block. In the photo is not finished. I was painting the fretboard beacause i would like to have the black color everywhere and because I ll try to hide some marks from epoxy that I use to fill the fretboard chips.I want to believe that now the levelling it's allright.
Now I put linseed oil on the fretboard everyday.
I am all ears for advices.

Back again.I was going to my professional "service man" and he said that the truss rod is dead.he will try to put a lock washer (or something like that if I understand correctly).I hope o fix it cause in other case I will have to find a replacement neck.
