Matsumoku .org
Hiya gang... as one or two of you may have noticed, the above forum has gone belly-up for a week or two now, and attempts by another forum member and myself to contact the site admin have fallen on deaf ears, so I'm afraid it might be the case that it has disappeared for good, which is a tragedy as the information available for all to access on that site was a major bonus.
Perhaps the fact that the traffic there had dropped to the point where it was no longer viable to keep it open has something to do with the admin not repairing it; I don't know, but it saddens me to see a top-notch site like that go down.
I know, too, the admin was quite unwell some time back so there may well be health issues to boot.
In any case, if it has indeed gone the way of the dodo, then I salute Neal, and Jon, Jorg and je for their efforts and thank them for the information and enjoyment I've had from the site since 2004!

The actual site is still accessible, but the forums, unfortunately, are gone.

Re: Matsumoku .org
Very sad news indeed John if true. The server is still active so there may be hope yet.
The 404 error simply means that the Forum section is not accessible via the internet. The fact that it isn't suggests to me that someone has been doing some repair work.
Not likely that the database has been lost since the original error was an access configuration problem not a software failure.
I'm hoping that we'll see it reappear sometime soon.

Update
I just checked the Mats site before retiring for the night and as of midnight local time we're back to displaying the original General Error (SQL) message. That tells me that someone is at least "tinkering" with it. Something positive at least.

Beat me to it John. I was trying like the dickens to log in over there just to see how things were faring. When I was unsuccessful I pondered posting a "what happened" thread here, as a few of us posted with fair frequency there.
I wonder if your comment on the traffic levels affects the forums as well. Always it seemed to me that there particularly quality far outstripped quantity as is pertained to posts.

Re: Matsumoku .org
I don't know Neal well, or at all really, but it doesn't seem like him to just up and quit without warning the membership. Only recently he renewed his dedication to the site so I think something is either very wrong (I hope not) or renewal has just slipped his mind somehow.
The fact that the domain still appears in the browser URL means that ownership has not yet been lost, only that GoDaddy has made the contents unavailable, perhaps until the arrears are paid. There is generally a grace period. Let's try not to panic...yet!
Proposal To The Membership
I was thinking that if worse came to worse, and assuming it was possible to obtain the data from Neal (a big assumption!), we might consider some kind of integration with our resources?
Technically, the reference info could easily be added to our website, perhaps as a sub-domain, but I don't know how best to handle the Forum data. It's a lota stuff!!
Reactions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: Matsumoku .org
Absolutely something should be done to preserve the resource IF Neal has become unwell again or has run into other difficulties, but what form that preservation should take, I don't know.
I'm trying to get in touch with Neal or the other admins, so we'll see what's going on, hopefully....

Good luck John and fingers are tightly crossed for Neal.
Meanwhile I am researching ideas should accommodating the info become a possibility.

Quick Update
John, I just checked the "whois" database at GoDaddy and it shows that the domain name is valid and up to date:
It appears to me like an attempt is being made at an upgrade of some sort and something has either "broken" or the site was taken down temporarily. From here it's all speculation of course but I don't think poor health would be the issue. At least I hope not.
According to this record, the domain was updated on Dec 5, 2016 with expiry on Dec 12, 2017. Assuming the Domain and hosting are renewed together Neal's site should still be viable.Domain Name: MATSUMOKU.ORG

Re: Matsumoku .org
Just one more little bit of info concerning the downed Mats site...
I had a closer look at the code behind the blank page that you see on connecting. I was able to trace it back to GoDaddy (the website's host). This is a standard default page that GoDaddy provides for the purposes of "parking" a web site.
Again, speculation, but maybe Neal is rebuilding the site and has taken the old one down temporarily???
You can read a bit more about GoDaddy Parking HERE.

New site...maybe?
OK, I'm officially confused (like there was ever a doubt)
I was noodling around and I found Neal's Home page displaying under the URL of http://www.matsumoku.net/ !!
A check of Whois gives this info. I don't know if this came first and was abandoned, or...
It's definitely live and is paid up until 2019. But get this, it's registered to a dude in Yokahama Japan!
There is only the Home page. No links to anything else. But it's definitely Neal's stuff.
I have no friggin' idea at this point what in hell is going on. Is this an old abandoned site? The start of a new one?

Hey Pierre, that's why God created the Non-Westone forum!
You wouldn't be the first to talk about a Vantage or other Mats guitars here.
Keep us in mind when you start twitching from another acquisition!
