Thunder 2 bass distortion Empty Thunder 2 bass distortion

Post by Clive Shakedown Sun Mar 22, 2015 9:34 am

Hi everyone.

I've just discovered an odd problem, my bass is distorting at any volume via the neck pickup, have tried other basses and it's just this one.
it almost sounds like a distortion pedal.
the bridge pick up is fine, (both pick ups are humbuckers non modified Thunder 2) it's a 1984
any ideas or advice will be appreciated.

ps, with both pick ups selected it is still audible, just not so bad.
and, it didn't do it a last time I played it, and I have no batteries as I don't ever use the actives.

???

Hi mate, hope you are well.

Only thing I can think of would be the neck volume pot....check the solder joints or failing that might be a faulty pot.

Let us know how you get on  Cool

Hiya, yes fine thanks, only one volume control on the bass, just spent nearly an hour taking out the pick up selector switch and servisol ling it, is that a word?
but still the same, all wires attached.
not a serious problem as have more Thunders, just annoying that it's below par at the moment.
Good suggestion, will take a look at the pots.
Cheers.

Yeah, Cat's got the right idea. Usually a simple cleaning will correct it.

Many weird and wonderful sounds have been caused by a bit o' corrosion on a pot's wiper. Sometimes no sound at all. Common electrical problem especially on an older instrument.

Squirt liberally. Then yank it like a monkey in a Mango tree. What a Face
