Inspired by Sgt Vimes T1A re-finishing exercise, I bought myself a cheapie to see what I could get up to without wasting loads of cash,

and went from this: -

I'm quite pleased with the result, but next time will make sure I don't over sand out the grain filling, as despite about 10 coats of clear lacquer it is not glass smooth in places...

The original dark finish did a good job of disguising the plethora of pieces of wood used to make the body. There is even a joint between the front and back of the guitar. You could say it's a very thick "2 ply" guitar!

It actually plays very nicely for what was a fairly cheap guitar in it's day.The toggle is a coil split. Not sure what make the pick-ups are, but they seem quite high output - a bit like a super-super distortion!

Nicely done indeedy!
I nearly bought one of those satellites recently but I need to shift a few  first to make room for more!

What clear coat did you use?  Aerosol or gun applied?

I've had one of those they're a decent guitar apart from the tuners.

Yes, tuners aren't a patch on a Westone's!

The pick-ups are also a bit "all-or-nothing"!
