Mats Hondo double cut 6er
Excuse the shaky phone pix, it's bloody windy out there.
picked this up for a decent price yesterday, tuners were shot, the tone pot snapped off and a missing ferrule.
new tuners, new pot and a quick clean and job's a goodun!
was expecting the pups to be Dimarzio's, but turns out to be a kickass pair of MMk45's!
Full size pots and a coil cut switch, shaking the bloody windows!
also some 3rd party Norse Runes to add some magic!
Love it!

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
incidentally I'm looking for a scan of the 1980/81 hondo pro guitar catalogue if anyone knows of it's whereabouts?
I'm mainly just looking for a name/number for my Hondo's

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
I reckon it's the H1010. The HD 1010 has the DiMarzio's.
The catalogue is on the VintAxe website but you need to pay a sub to see the catalogues etc

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
Yeah it's the H1010, and you rightly pointed out the D stands for DiMarzio...as far as popular opinion suggests.
Still would like to see the catalogue, I've a couple other Hondo's I'd like to name..
and I'm too much of a skinflint to pay an online subscription to Vintaxe to use it once, maybe twice!
as Barry would say...."cheap bastid!"

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
I paid my subscription about 6 months ago and I've used it loads (handy when browsing ebay). I think it may have only been meant to last a month, but I've certainly go my money's worth!
Not sure what it cost - a fiver or so maybe. I think it's been money well spent.

Good score Sarge, I like it!
Very reminiscent of my Vantage VS600 (also MMK45's):
You can see the Mats influence eh?

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
4.5kg, I have heavier but this seems very heavy for it's size but I guess thats mahogany for ya.
Again these mmk's sound different to almost all the others I've had or have, not better or worse really...just different.
a couple of the slotted pole pieces on the pups have no bite, the slugs are fine, just the bobbins have no thread, any suggestions to remedy this? tin foil?

Sarge
I had one of these, and like yours it had MMK 45's. I bumped it for two reason.
Firstly it was too damn heavy, and secondly its neck/body orientation was like a Gibson SG and in the sitting position it felt like your left hand was in an other country when you played open chords.
Well made guitar and loads of bang for bucks.

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
I don't have a scale, but it's surprisingly heavier than you'd think, considering its thin body. Not Les Paul territory, but she's quite comfortable Damian, especially with the wide'sh leather strap I have on it.
The shaped body snuggles right into you, and is nicely balanced. Beautiful thin neck which I like, and the action is like whale snot!
Great sounding little axe.

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
I've a few Mats Hondo LP type and they're all heavy beasts but play and sound very good. Solid mahogany Dimarzio's, MMK45's.
Wonder why they made the SG so thin.

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
Ok I lied, it's comfortably the heaviest 6 string I have to hand, by 1kg.....deceptive really as I thought either the Westbury Standard or the washburn RS10v were heavier, not even close.

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
Just a little heads up on the replacement string ferrules.

these are the only ones I could find with matching measurements...or near enough.
handy to have around as i've had a couple of vintage guitars missing a ferrule or two.

I play sitting down 99% of the time, so my shoulder doesn't get the abuse.
It won't get bumped just yet, though it will probably not get picked up for a while, my latest non westone should arrive saturday (my birthday! )and if all goes to plan I wont be playing much else in some time

Re: Mats Hondo double cut 6er
Thanks for the birthday wishes.
I play sitting down as well, but the bastard was macheteing its way through my thigh and my left hand thought it was in Ireland while my right hand strummed open chords in Scotland.

Sarge
My right and left hands always play different songs regardless of the guitar.
It is a phenomenon widely documented and discussed and goes under the generic term of incompetence.
