What string gauge do you prefer?
STRING GAUGE
Not sure if this is "technical" or not.
I'm just wondering what the consensus on string gauge is around these parts.

Re: STRING GAUGE
Context is everything. Generally I like .010s for standard tuning but strats just sound SO MUCH BETTER with .011s. I use a funny tuning on another guitar for a couple of Tool songs tuned BEDGBE - like a 7-string set without the A. I used to play some songs in drop-C and used .011s on those on a short scale guitar.

Hi Jimmy, this properly belongs in the Polls & Surveys Forum. (I've moved it )
If you look there, you'll find that you are actually duplicating an existing Poll on this subject: LINK
(By the way fellas...it's a poll. You're supposed to make a selection above)

Re: STRING GAUGE
Thanks Barry, I didn't think it was in the right spot. I also overlooked the previous post on the same subject. My apologies.
Just curious as to what people are using. I've been using 10's on my strat for awhile. From what I'm reading next time it will be 11's. As far as the Specturm goes, it will be 10's this time.
Thanks.

Re: STRING GAUGE
No worries.
String gauge as well as material is a personal preference thing. It also very much depends if you are playing rhythm or lead.
The 'rule of thumb' is 9's on F scale 10's on G scale guitars. That said, I prefer 10's on a Tele and 9's on my Spectrums and 11's on most Gretsch's. I don't own a Strat, don't get on with them. But when I do play one I'm happier with 9's.
Acoustics are all over the place.
