Ian's stuff

Westones:

1986 x-70 (natural finish) S-H - hardtail
1985 Spectrum DX snow white H-H - Bendmaster, locking nut, stock pups (no markings), totally stock save the trem bar.

First guitar: 1974 Yamaha SG35 (yes, I'm a recovering Yamaholic)

Most recent guitar: Aria Pro II RS Deluxe V

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Guitars currently in the family:

1974 Yamaha SG35, grover tuners, SD '59 at the neck and SD pearly gates bridge pickup

1978 Onyx (Yamaki built ?? - not confirmed by anyone) "Japanese Wing" style neck through body, dual rail humbuckers, beautiful sounds from this one

1986 Westone x70 (check out members Westones), single coil plus humbucker config, natural finish, body truss rod adjust, maple neck.

1985 Westone Spectrum DX, locking nut, bendmaster, snow white, body truss rod adjust, purple rosewood fretboard.

1974 Epiphone acoustic FT-130 MIJ - blue tag Matsumoku

2008 Gibson LP standard, '60 neck, honey burst

1993 Takemine acoustic (Western)

1969-ish Yamaha acoustic (classical)

1977 Granada Les Paul Custom (MIJ - Matsumoku) - flame maple top, H-H, mother of toilet inlay, Canadian market brand, "house" brand for some conservatories.

1982 Vantage Entertainer, stock electronics and hardware, h/h, bound neck, bound body, MMK 45's, double coil cut switch, glossy black, arch top, chrome hardware, dot inlay, rosewood fretboard, neck truss rod adjust.

New - 1982 Aria Pro II RS Deluxe-V strat clone, MAPLE neck, stock electronics and machine heads, MMK single coils s/s/s, gold hardware, trem, 5-way selector, candy apple red body with white pick guard and single coil pups, plays, sounds like a strat, neck truss rod adjust. Issues - needs a new 1/4 " jack. This is a nice instrument for chicken pickin' or Texas shuffle stuff.

+++++++++++++++

Traded for the Aria Pro II strat clone - 1986 Vantage Avenger ("The Mule" - possible transition model) - TV yellow, gotoh tuners

Past guitars include ESP viper, a couple of late model Samicks, Ovation 12, etc..

We used to perform that and as our singer was finishing the last word in the song, our drummer would rush out from behind the kit with a big towel to wipe the sweat off the singers' face... (Alan was spotlit and the rest of the stage in darkness!) cheesy as hell but the punters got a giggle out of it!!

There's some nice Westones showing up here, eh.... Go, Trev, you good thing!! (Vantage are my particular predilection...)

Hi Mark. Well you're showing amazingly good taste in instruments!
Nice to see that Uncle Mats' quality is appreciated by the next generation; makes an old rocker warm and fuzzy afro , um, on the inside.

Turn 'er up!

Well, if we're listing ALL our gear, I can post up a list of all my stringed instruments...

BASSES (12)
1. ~1994 Peavey International Series Milestone II
2. ~2000 Peavey Grind 6 NTB
3. 1985 Westone Spectrum GT Bass
4. 1987 Peavey Patriot
5. 1984 Westone The Rail (black)
6. ???? Carlo Robelli 12-string (tuned eeEaaAddDggG or ebEaeAdaDgdG or g#bEc#eAf#aDbdG)
7. 1985 Westone Diminsion IV
8. 1985 Westone The Rail (red)
9. 2008 Dean Playmate Electric-Acoustic Bass
10. 1982 Peavey T-45
11. ~1970 Aria Model 1540 (Jazz Bass copy, Uncle Mat)
12. 1985 Westone The Rail (white)

GUITARS (5)
Esteban acoustic-electric (black)
Esteban acoustic-electric (natural)
Esteban acoustic-electric (blue with cutaway)
Yamaha acoustic
~2005 Yamaha EGV103 electric

OTHER
Carlo Robelli A-style mandolin
Hohner HU212 soprano ukulele

I only know my way around the basses. Chords drive me nuts so I can't do much with the guitar or mandolin. The uke has nice wide string spacing though, so I'm starting to learn on it, and will move up to the guitars and mando. If you guys want pics of any of the non-Westones, I'll be happy to provide. Peavey made EXCELLENT basses back in the day. I'm not so fond of their lousy record keeping (they can't tell me anything about my MIK models), but that old T-45 has massive, MASSIVE tone. It actually sounds better than my Spectrum, but because the Spectrum weighs half what the T-45 does, the Spectrum gets top billing.

Post by DuoFuzz Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:24 am

Since I'm sitting here having my brain cells rotted by British daytime TV, and my soul destroying search for a job is slowly killing me, I thought I'd cheer myself up and give you a laugh at my collection of cheap guitars.
Be under no illusions, none of these are highly collectible. I've never bought any big name high end stuff, I don't think I'm good enough to be honest !. I much prefer the models at the cheaper end of the market.
Most of these are secondhand and many of them have needed a bit of TLC to get them playable again. It's getting to a point now that I actually think I'm running a sanctuary for badly mistreated guitars.
I've also put my dads guitars on this list. When he passed away a few years back, me and my brother got his guitars and we've never got round to who owns what, so we just seem to share them!

Anywhoo, on with the list:

1. 1980 Aria Pro II CS250 Cardinal. (Early version, no model type on trussrod cover. Different control layout. All original Uncle Mat!)
2. 90's(?) Aria Pro II LBE-STD Libra Standard. (Strange white burst finish. Aria ART-1 Floyd style trem. H/S/S layout.)
3. 70's Avon Les Paul Custom. (One of dads, bro fitted it with EMG's! but I still have originals. Made in Japan, must be collectible Laughing.)
4. 2004 Burns Nu-sonic Player Series. (Cheapest model but fitted with 2 Tri-sonics and a hot Burns bridge H/B.)
5. Cruiser SJ550. (Cheap LP junior copy by Crafter. P90's sound good but now has neck problem. Project to sort out)
6. 1998 Danelectro U2 reissue. (Limo black, great guitars and so easy to play.)
7. 1989 Epiphone 435i. (Super Strat style, H/S/S. Good guitar until the Floyd trem exploded Sad, yes honestly, kaboom !)
8. 2004 Epiphone Les Paul. (Plus top model flame front. Alnico II Pro Seymour Duncans fitted.)
9. 2003 Epiphone '58 Explorer. (Korina. Want a black pickguard for it. SD Custom 5 bridge + Jazz neck zebra p-ups)
10. 2003 Epiphone SG Gothic. (Polished original satin black paint. EMG 81 + 85 Zakk Wylde p-up set fitted. Rock machine.)
11. 1996 Fender DG3 acoustic. (Crap! trussrod knackered. Setup for slide. Added DeArmond 210 p-up, worth more than guitar!)
12. 1991(?) Fenix Tele. (In bits. Post lawsuit model. Just needs rebuilding. One of many projects)
13. 2007 Gretsch Electromatic Pro-Jet. (Modded. Now fitted with Bigsby B7 and a pair of TV Jones filtertron's. US spec electrics.)
14. 2007 Hamer XT Series SATFP90. (Honeyburst flame top. I love P90's)
15. 1991 Hohner TE Custom XII Tele. (Always wanted to a 12 string. All original with it's EMG Selects still fitted. Weighs a ton.)
16. 80's Hondo HL5BFBB. (One of dads. L5 copy. Front smashed in. I will try to repair it if possible but it's a lot of work. Project!)
17. 1981 Hondo II H1052B. (Fender Lead II copy. Current project. Never seen another one?)
18. 1984 Ibanez Roadstar II RS135. (Dads guitar. 3 S/C's, Powerocker trem. 21 fret maple neck. Lovely guitar.)
19. 70's(?) Jedson Tele type thing! (Tiesco made, I think. 1" thick body, cheap trem, slide switches, and plays real good! One of dads)
20. Manhattan Jazzmaster thing. (Cheapo thing I bought to modify, just one more project!)
21. 70's Satellite LP copy. (Neck like a baseball bat. Used for slide work since end of trussrod fell off! Sky PAF+ p-ups)
22. 1990 Squier Strat. (Made in Japan. Dad was building this when he passed away. I finished as a tribute to him. Jim Cairnes p-ups.)
23. 90's Squier Strat. (Silver Series, Japan. Bare Knuckles Irish tour p-up set fitted.)
24. 2004 Squier Thinline Tele HH. (Set neck. Don't see many of these, nice guitar. SD '59 bridge + Jazz neck p-ups.)
25. 2007 Squier '51. (love this guitar. Great maple neck and not many about. original for now!)
26. 1990 Squier Strat. (MIJ. Has no right to sound and play as well as it does. MDF body!)
27. Spanish Guitar. (Thought to be a "Tatra" ? Has fake F holes after previous owner fitted steel strings an caved the front in!)
28. 1983 Westone Thunder 1. (My first and so far, only working westy! Some new hardware with SD P-Rails and special electrics.)
29. 198? Westone Thunder 1. (Version 2 type, no serial. Originally clear red, then over-painted black Mad . No hardware other than bridge and controls. The bridge plate and control cover both inscribed with the words "Arts In Corrections" !?! Yet another project.)

So there you go, this is what happens GAS hits overdrive and you don't know when to stop! And if you think this looks bad, then think about the 107 FX pedals I currently own. No

Yes, FleaBay has a lot to answer for!

Hey Dan, if it's any consolation my son, I'm 64 now and I lost my job last November. I've got degrees and experience up the yin-yang but I'm still trying to find something in any one of several disciplines. There's bugger all happening here either, so I know how you feel. Sad

And, 29 guitars???!! Makes my 13 look tame by comparison, eh?
I'd love to get a Cardinal sometime before I die (which could be any moment now) and I'm glad you have a U2 Dano---ain't they a blast?? Masonite rocks! cheers

Blame it on Global Warming even though we're about 7 to 10 degrees Celsius lower than normal here for this time of year and have been since May.

Actually John may be on the right track.
As a quick check, when you are in create or edit mode look on the right side of the page. You should see the Emoticon panel and all the graphic selections. Below it you should see a summary of your main settings.
Confirm that you see:
-HTML is OFF
-BBCode is ON
-Smilies are ON

If they are not, open your Profile and check the Preferences tab and confirm that you have the Always allow BBCode : and the Always enable Smilies : enabled.
These should be enabled by default but just in case...On most bulletin boards If you are not using their native BBCode you need to make your entry in HTML. Those question marks (?) are usually an indication that the parsing engine can't understand your carriage returns (Enter's) and is expecting something else.

Finally, when you are creating a post or edit, check the OPTIONS box at the bottom of the page (below the Preview / Send buttons). Make sure that the Disable BBCode and Disable Smilies boxes are not checked.

Hope this is helpful!
(And Al Gore can still bite me)

Al Gore can eat poop and die..... you know, in the Deep South of NZ there is a wee town called Clinton not too far away from another wee town called Gore and the road connecting them was called the "Presidential Highway" in their honour! Doesn't that make ya wanna puke.... Rolling Eyes

I passed through Gore twice in the early 1970s, on a journey to and from Bluff. I remember a landscape very different from most of the rest of New Zealand, which is a beautiful country with magnificient scenery around every other corner.

Whenever I think of being down Gore way, I have flashbacks of the desolate landscape scenes out of Mad Max. For me there was something spooky about that part of NZ. I would go back though to revisit Invercargill, which held a lot of charm for me. I wonder of the good citizens of Gore have ever considered a name change for the town following the Al Gore thing.

Add bass #13 to my list: an Electra Phoenix X640! I think it's an '81, but I haven't looked up anything on how to read Electra serials so that's just a guess. The serial is 011063. I'm curious what this color is called, since the catalogs over on the electra page don't mention any sort of burst, and this is red/maroon around the edges and natural in the middle. It's a very nice bass, two p-bass pickups, active on/off switch, phase reverse, and a kill switch for some reason. The middle knob doesn't seem to do anything, and the center detent on it makes me wonder... the volume and tone knobs work fine. It's also an older Phoenix, with the pickguard on it. Strangest textured pickguard I've ever seen. Also the finish on the body itself is not smooth... the woodgrain can be felt through it! I like it. It's extremely light, possibly as light as a Rail. Certainly lighter than its brother next to it, the Spectrum GT.

Oh man, sorry to say but I'm unlikely to ever part with one. I would say to check eBay more closely, or I can keep track of what goes through Tim and Terry's music shop here as they recently had an Electra Westone X635 (basically a Spectrum ST, I sold my friend on it) and a Pantera X750 (still there last I checked, price tag is $250 but it's a little beat up and looks like somebody bleached the fretboard). I'd be willing to be the middle man if you can't get something through eBay (there have been a few nice Phoenix (Spectrum) basses recently).

And I will echo corsair, Stein, we need pictures!

Yesterday I bought a BC Rich Mockingbird bass (~2002). My first bass. Member's gear database... Fresse It had been heavily gigged, and stunk of beer and cigarettes. Naturally, I took it apart, cleaned everything put it all back together. I restrung it with a set of Rotosound strings. It RUMBLES nicely, but I had to fix the intonation and action a bit. Some of the frets show wear, but that'll have to wait. LOTS O FUN. Member's gear database... Icon_sunny

Here is my list or collection of Mat's, they are posted on the Guitar Directory in the collection section. Here is a link:

http://www.guitardir.com/main.php?Context=AboutNS

You pick the "collection" tab and select the collection you want to view. I'm under "Frenchy"

I would also recommend others to join and post theyre collection! It's free and you have total control over your collection page. You can add or delete anything at any time on your collection page. It's just fun to have...

The Rails blow most people away because no one expects them to have good tone, but they'll beat out a lot of solid body basses. I think it has something to do with the tuned steel rails, but I can't say for sure.

And any bass in your collection would be nice to have, Vantage or otherwise. They're all beauties!

The T-45 was the product of having nothing to do one day and heading over to Sam Ash and just playing every bass in reach. I was about to leave when I found a rack of basses somewhat hidden in the aisle next to the PA systems, and the T-45 was hanging on the back of it next to a roof support pillar. Picked it up, plugged it in, and was sold on it after strumming the open E just once. I played it for about an hour, just blown away by the thick tone. They only wanted $300 for it, and it came with an old padded gig bag (where I later found a strap buried in the pocket!) I was pretty astounded that it outperformed the $1200+ basses on the rack.
