Thingy behind headstock of Spectrum SX

Does anyone know what this is and what it is used for? Is this complete as it seems to have screwholes in them? It is a metal block that is just screwed onto the headstock of a similar shape as the base for the triangular and rectangular washers.https://i.servimg.com/u/f82/18/31/15/54/p5210018.jpg

Thanks Iceman. Very interesting - just a holder for the wrenches/allen keys I see. That has been bugging me since I got the guitar. I am new to this forum and still trying to figure out how to load an image - I did take some pics of this and tried to copy the image from the SD card but couldn't seem to get any further. I tried the option of "Host an image" but can't seem to upload.

As a new member you can't post an image until you meet the required number of posts, I believe it to be 10 posts....

Upload the images to one of the online image libraries, and then copy and paste the .img codes into your posts here.

Thank you all for the helpful advice as I find my way around this website and its features. Will load some pics as soon as I am able to. Have been busy looking around for some 2000 grit sandpaper to work on the guitar and it is extremely difficult to come by here. Tried all the DIY and Autoparts shops and finally got referred to a paint manufacturer by a body panel shop. For those in Wellington, you can get them from Union Hardware in Newtown

Here are the pics of my guitar. Notice that I improvised on the washer and the bolts. Made the 1-piece "washer" out of 3mm aluminium. Then I saw the freebie by Sgt Vimes - Nothing like the original I suppose. I also had to get some knobs.

Here's a shot of the back of my SX. No close up of the headstock available, but you get the idea. Yours appears to also be missing the knurled top screws which clamp the wrenches to the plate.

I do like these MX/SX Spectrums.....

That's not a bad improvisation there on the stringlock; well done! Be aware that underneath the strings there should be 1mm thick shims, shaped like the locking washers: they prevent the top washer acting too much like a guillotine on your strings!

There are bods in here who've made reproduction Westone knobs, too; my red MX wears a set of see through red ones made by our own Tvil, which I reckon look really cool.... YMMV

Did you find the guitar in NZ? When I was living there, I think I bought every one I ever saw for sale, apart from a Spectrum FX in Cashies Rotorua, where the a-hole manager wouldn't haggle!

Sounds like a dumb question but what would the 2 allen keys be used for on the SX? Ok, now that I found out that the original bolts for the locking washers uses one of them - what would the other be for?

Undoing and tightening the saddle intonation bolts. This is a PITA though not terribly technical to do and involves taking your best guess, de-tuning a little, slacking the bolt off, moving the saddle, tightening the bloody thing, re-tuning and re-checking the intonation.

Repeat as necessary.
