Tobacco Sunburst Spectrum ST on eBay (UK)...
Refinished (& not without its faults), but I quite like the look of this one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321114553997?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Not sure if there's a crack in the neck pocket, though (photo 15), which is potentially a bit of a worry. Also, has anyone had any luck replicating the headstock transfers for Spectrums, as it looks a bit naked up there?

They're not MMK 45 pups.
They're crappy/weak pups and are very thin sounding.
Both coils together only read about 6.3k, real crappy pups
Can tell by the cross head screws in them.

Yeah, I'd sussed they were the standard crappy UBCs - I've sent the seller a message to see if he's realised...

All the time taken to refinish seemingly everything but he can't find 15 minutes to properly clean up and oil the fretboard??
If that apparent crud buildup is some sort of meant aging it really suxs... plain and simple.

The seller's been back to me just now - there is 'possibly' a crack in the neck pocket & the pickups aren't 45s...

That's what Westone so called 'ebonised' fingerboards look like when they have been cleaned.
Just that he missed a bit up the deep end.
Didn't you 'clean' one of yours off, back in the day Ice...
He's just rubbed the stain off.
Still he's not asking a fortune for it and that wee crack won't affect anything. Still be solid

I was not aware any of the Spectrum line got that treatment Damian, and yes... I did remove the shoe polish from my x775 fretboard. A youthful indiscretion from my past.
I was unaware of it being a factory stain as I began cleaning it and figured it out as I went. After the first go around I liked what I was seeing so I continued until all the stain was gone save for the tiny remnants in the grain.
An improvement actually IMHO...

Serendipitous to have bumped into this little gem just moments ago.
The only Electra Phoenix model to be finished in sunburst from the factory. Missed one of these by a gnat's hair around a year or so back...

Re: Tobacco Sunburst Spectrum ST on eBay (UK)...
I've often wondered what a spectrum would look like sunburst, it was an option I briefly considered when I purchased my ST as it was/still is tatty and dinted a lot, but I decided to keep its history visual.
It wont take much to put that ST right, a little finish sanding and a toothbrush on the board, bob's yer uncle.
He really has done a good burst job on that neck, very pretty imo.
I wouldnt think the neck pocket cracks are anything to worry about, I only own 2 guitars without that crack and none have budged at all.
I can't see it getting more than 1 or 2 bids though as £80 for an ST is pretty much top dollar in original condish..

Here's a well worn ebonised 'board on an LX '85.

Those crosshead pups are even worse that the black plastic backed ubc's...

For what it's worth, I rather like the look of the worn ebonised fingerboards...
I'll keep an eye on this one & see if anyone wants it for the price, otherwise I might make him an offer (never had a Spectrum of my own before & just happen to have a pair of unused Super Distortion pickups laying around...).

So plump for a pair of real MMK45's then to chuck in after you've got it and a banshee she will be.
