Wanted: Mmk75
Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone in here is willing to swap his/her mmk75 (preferably neck-position, but I also would be very happy with a bridge-pickup) for a mmk45 (rail-magnets) and a chrome bendmaster deluxe with 2 springs, springholder, screws and mounting studs (havent got the trem-arm, stringlock or those pieces the mounting studs are screwed in. You would make a pantera x350ma and me very happy .
Also have an old Kahler 2300 in gold if someone is interested.
Please tell me if you're interested.
Cheers, Hans

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
If only I had a spare it would be yours, Mein Herr. Hope someone can help you out as I've seen only one for sale in the last year or so.
I didn't realize you had an x350 Hans. Had you posted pictures of it anywhere previously?

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Thank you Ice ...I won't give up hope.
If I can't find one I'll have a try to make a replacement with my DIY winding machine ...
It works, but it lasts 8 hours to wind one coil at 45 rpm and you have to guide the wire up and down all the time. Oh, and one moment without concentration will cause the wire to tear...so it's funny to try but not really efficient. (I replaced the wiper contact for counting the winds with a magnetic switch in the meanwhile).
In fact, I didn't have an x350 until yesterday. There has been a small ad for one quite a long time, and I had a look every day wether it was still there. The price was quite fair in my eyes, but I still coundn't afford it (wasn't an ultra-bargain like the x790 last year).
One day, my girlfriend apparently was tired of me looking at the small ad every day (more than once), so she decided to make a combined present for every celebration in 2013 and contacted a friend who lives nearby the guitar to pick it up without my knowledge. Now she told me yesterday. I guess that makes me her panting slave .
I'll get the x350 in about a month, enough time for anticipation. S/n is 606xxxx by the way, so I guess it has passive electronics. Better pics will follow as soon as I have it.
EDIT: Just realized that Micro's x350 with active electronics has the s/n 6063529...mine has 6063589. I could always ask for a pic to clear that up, but I think I'll take pot luck, in the end it doesn't really matter to me ...

She's a beauty Hans. And you are one lucky guy to have such a supportive lady in your life.

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Very nice indeed! Congratulations.
You might also try your luck in any Epiphone forums that are out in the etherworld as MMK75's were a stock item on some of the hollowbody offerings in the early 80's as well and many times they get swapped out for a more traditional sounding humbucker (Lollar, Pearly Gates & the like).
What sort of pup resides in the neck currently?

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Thanks for the hint about the epiphones, I'll have a try.
The guitar has no neck-pickup at the moment. As soon as I have it, I'll put that rail-mmk45 in it (might be problematic because of the different output-levels) or I'll try to wind a matched pickup until I find an original.
EDIT: I remember that someone in here already put some W-logos on humbucker-cover...just can't find the thread. Any idea where that was?

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Been awhile since a 350 was up for sale - good catch eh
A Seymour Duncan SH-2 would sound really good in the neck position on it until you find a MMK75. And you may even prefer it.

I have an orphaned MMK61 you could give a whirl as well although I am not certain if it would be a proper match for the wood in that beauty.

Thank you very much. I know neither the sh-2 nor the MMK61, but intuitively, I'd go for the MMK61, I think (if you are willing to let it go).
The only hint I found concerning the sound of the MMK61 was, that is like an overwound MMK75, whereas the MMK75 is a very well built PAF (member "racing"). So I guess it might fill the existing "resonance hole" quite well.
May I ask why you think that it might not be a proper match?
Got the first pic...I just couldn't wait. Poor lighting conditions, however it looks like a very nice piece of wood...at least on the back ...
Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Just a guess tone-wise I suppose.
It is an older pup than that Pantera came with, and originally was white now aged to a creme color, the bracket being the same.
Appearance-wise it most likely would not be all that pleasing.

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Oh, ok...then I'll try to find a used sh-2...Thank you very much for your help, I have almost no experience with different humbuckers in guitars.
Re: Wanted: Mmk75
This is a great webpage for you then Hans...
http://www.seymourduncan.com/comparetones/pickups/24
I have found this to be very useful. I took the liberty of preloading it with 4 pups that I have had experience with. You can click back to the entire SD line from the top of the page to check out any of the models they offer. The Distortion Parallel Axis I placed in the first column is in my wife's Genesis I and it is a red-hot screamer for a tremolo pup.
I have a few spare SD's lying about that I could let you experiment with if you'd like. A pair of Pearly Gates, a pair of BurstBuckers and a couple more I'd have to reference the numbers off as I don't recall them offhand.
Let me know if I can help.
**EDIT** The link I've added below will let you chose SD pups according to build style and has tone examples that may be missing from the tone comparison chart page I linked above. Enjoy...

Those links are very good, thank you. Just perfect to get an overview. However, I didn't find the 4 preloaded pups in the first link (I guess these are saved locally on your computer. Which ones did you choose?).
I've tried to search for this classic PAF-type, ended up comparing the Pearly Gates/Seth Lover/Jazz Model (sh-2)/Alnico II Pro and liked the sound of everyone. Do you think one of them might be the right one or would you suggest something else?

This!!
I bought an MMK75 from a Pantera in Dunedin, NZ some years ago, and given that such a Pantera was likely to be one of the exotics, I, too, tried to find out a little more but alas; all the bloke knew was that the guitar had been broken at the neck and had been stripped. This is in one of Damians' guitars as we speak...
God save us all from nitwits and imbeciles...

Thanks for the tip, but I guess I'll hold out for an mmk75 and put a mmk61 in the guitar (that Steve has very kindy offered to send to me) until I find one (who knows how long that takes).

Actually Hans you are going to get the opportunity to try all of them.
I ended the auction for those Washburns that Damian linked after I contacted the seller. While his auction stated worldwide shipping he did not sound very enthused about actually doing so in his response, so for the $50 odd bucks they cost I snapped them up. I can send the 3 of them if you wish and we can sort of the particulars once you decide which one works best for you.
Re: Wanted: Mmk75
I contacted the seller a few days back, he's postage charge to the UK was $45/50, so too much for me here.
I'd certainly be interested Ice.

Re: Wanted: Mmk75
If Hans is resolute on just using my spare '61 then they are all yours, Damian. I have a project Washburn here I've been meaning to find a hotter set of pups for but I am on no itching hurry to get that completed.
After I have the upshot on Hans and my previous arrangement I will pm you an update.

That would be so awesome Steve, many thanks for that.
The only guitars I found that came with those pickups are these: Click (hope linking is ok here)
Maybe made in the US, but I didn't find anything about those pickups apart from pics, so I'd love to try them out.
EDIT: I don't want to be in somebody's way here. If you want them Westbone and Steve is willing to let them go then I'd say go for it...I'm convinced I'll be more than happy with the mmk61.
Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Right.
The PM's have been sorted and Hans definitely wishes to stick with a '61 until a '75 can be located.
The Washburns are yours Damian. PM me your info and I will hope to have things in transit by week's end. I have been down (but not out) victim to the common cold and there are a couple of rounds yet to go, but I plan on being back on my feet by Thursday at the latest.

the problem i have found with DIY waterslide decals is that printable waterslide decals are typically clear and most printers don't actually print white. they rely on white background and print the rest.

The originals were paint, probably kind of screened in some way ie. stamped.
These are the only 4 I have. They're stencils on sticky back plastic. Rock on Blue Peter!
If anyone needs the measurements, fire away.

Thanks, I'll order those if the one I have laying arround doesn't fit.
Also contacted fish about these little stencils...Perhaps I'm lucky and he'll send me some, as I contacted 3 different shops locally and all of them told me that cutting this small logo is impossible ...
Re: Wanted: Mmk75
Hi, silence86, I have been lurking here for some time, mainly to check on sales of Panteras. I saw this thread and thought I could help, so I registered. I have a pickup that I believe came out of my x390CB that is labeled MMK and stamped "75", but has what could be a "40" or maybe intials(?) written in marker.
I know it was in the bridge position of either my x390 or my unfortunately now-broken TRS
Pantera. I switched both of those out for Dimarzio Mega-Drives back in
the 90s, but only have one original bridge pickup left. The x390 neck
pickup has the bird logo and the TRS neck pickup does not, so I'm
assuming this came from the x390.
Also, since the TRS is broken I took it out and removed the neck pickup. It doesn't even look similar on the bottom.
Anyway, if the pickup I have is what you need, I'd have no problem working a deal for the Kahler if you still have it. I'd even give you the neck pickup from the TRS if you want it. Shoot me a pm.
Since I took the time to dig it out and take the pics, here are another few shots of the Trevor Rabin Signature WER100WHT(?), which broke at the neck joint when it was dropped on the floor and the headstock caught the bottom edge of my 4x12 cabinet in 1999. I only had the thing for around a year when that happened. I was so mad that I ended up yanking the neck completely off and beating the crap out of the body with it (bad temper in my 20s) - which is why the headstock is split. (If I hadn't done that, maybe it could have been fixed, I don't know.)

Thank you so much, that mmk75 is exactly what I need, and I'd love to swap for my kahler. I'll pm you as soon as the night is over here, as I guess my better half would kill me if I swiched on the laptop now^^...
The "40" seems common for a "pantera-mmk75", at least all of mine have it.
I'm very sorry for you concerning that trs, hope you'll find another one.
Thank you very much for contacting, I'll pm you as soon as possible.

Did it arrive yet? I posted those Washburn pups to Damian and an extra TekGlide tremolo to John for his x195 Phoenix the same day as your pup and they both received theirs.
