Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
Electra never did a Pantera, and the only Panteras to have the 2 humbuckers were the X350s & X390s, which were set necks so yeah; most odd!!
That bridge looks like a Bendmaster Precision....

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
Definatley the Pantera shape. The oddest thing to me is the output jack on the face of the guitar - no Panteras had a jack there, but was common on othe electra/westone guitars. Maybe a Pantera prototype and possibly with a non origial neck? or just a mix mash of parts put together at the factory?

My bet is an early factory attempt.

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
here are a few things i see with that one;
it is a flat top body, with an arm cut, not an arched top like other Panteras
the volume knob seems really close to the bridge pup
the 3-way switch looks like it is almost off the edge of the guitar
those are some funky looking pole pieces too. i'm guessing somebody changed the pickups and the trim rings
on the Electra/Westone guitars i own, all have a curved truss rod cover on the head stock.
each has a string tree but it is a little farther away from the nut, more between the 2nd and 3rd tuning peg.
they are all black on the back of the neck and front of the headstock, with red lettering and logo. judging from the first picture in the listing, the reflection off the back of the neck, it looks to be natural on the back as well as the front of the headstock.
the neckplates look the same (same lettering in same place) except mine are black and this one looks to be nickel, but with all the scratches on the plate, it may have had the black sanded off.

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
The most obvious answer might be a repainted body with modifications that was cobbled together to an older Electra Westone neck circa 1983-1984.
Plausible?...
Plausible?...
Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
the body itself is quite unusual, not just a re-paint
The Genesis models had a flat front, with an arm bevel. maybe it is an early version of the Genesis, before the fancy routing was done, and before the new pointy headstock design.
maybe the routing was conceived of as a way to make the SLM Anniversary models special and unique
and then later, to differentiate the Pantera from the Genesis, the routed front was changed to a carved arched top

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
This is interesting indeed. Maybe a project guitar from misc parts at the factory. I hope Mr Tom P sees this post and can add his wisdom to this one.

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
I have a confession to make.
After working on him since January I finally struck a deal with the guy who was selling this on Craigslist. Fortunately, he lives in a town where I have a friend, and he in turn took delivery of it, packed it, and shipped it to me today... should be here Monday.
Cool beans, eh?

I expected a confession about as much as I expected the Spanish Inquisition...

Picking up a guitar off Craigslist is hardly cause for a confession though, right?

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
Sorry...I didn't even think about the link. It was a red Pantera... with the input jack on the front, a front arm bevel, two HB's and an ElectraWestone bullet neck. A fair jumble.
Ice... sometimes pulling one in from Craigslist is like landing a sixty pound carp from the bottoms. ;-)

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
Still think it's just a catch all of several Phoenix / Electra / Westone pieces. Natural face headstock is likely from a 1984 Phoenix (x13X - x14X) model with the TR adjustable at the nut, is has an x189 2-post TekGlide trem, the volume knob is way, WAY too crowded near the trem/bridge pup to make good sense.
Is the serial number on the the headstock or the neck plate? What does the neck plate look like?

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
The volume knob is not as close as it appears(shadow) also perfect to hook your pinkie around.
Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
the switch is also too close to the edge for me, its just begging to be caught and snapped on the turn, I like it though!

Pantera/electra/westone
It's a Westone Panterra X390. I've had two of them. Exact guitar Trevor Rabin played on Union 1991 tour except his was Capistan(sic) Blue:)

Prototype
If you look at my avatar I also own an X390 and also an X300 and FX, LX. The one in question looked like an early prototype. Metesky had some pictures up but the link is not there any more.
I found Metesky other link with pictures.

This has a pantera body with a bolt on maple electra style neck.

Re: Electra/Westone Pantera???
I was commenting on TVill25's avatar. Leslie West endorsed a bolt on neck Pantera which was a lower end Pantera. I might have gotten in the middle of a conversation and not looking at same picture? I just saw the TVilll25 avatar next to the first question...I do collect and have some Electras, Westones and now Alvarez (all St. Louis Music Co.) even though made in Japan as I'm sure a lot of you know...
