Original Tip Fits Switch replacement on Spectrum S
A long time ago, in a thread far away, I remarked that I had stooopid-ly bent one of the contact springs in the original 3 way switch of my beautiful white Spectrum S.
The result was a less than confident contact in the bridge position...a bit 'mushy' rather than a confident *click*, ya know? So, for awhile now I've had replace-the-S-switch on my bucket list. Thanks to a lead here (sorry, for the life of me I can't remember which member recommended the seller) I went to MIJ Guitars on Amazon and ordered a replacement switch. My thinking was, "if it's MIJ it'll likely be as close to OEM as possible 30 years on".
Well, I haven't yet installed it, but the good news is that the original tip fits like a glove on the new switch!
Here you can see the new part laying on top with its tip replaced with the original Mats tip. For those not aware, the original Spectrum tip has a distinctive proprietary tapered conical shape rather than the standard rounded shape of the newer parts. And, like those funky knobs, they're near impossible to find (unless you're Westbone, who makes his own by chewing the round ones with his teeth until they look right )

That's good news Barry.
There's one BIG difference.
The Westone knurled nut has a collar.
You'll have to use your old one of course.
Here's one I chewed earlier.
Westone nut on right
Using the original nut goes straight on , no problem.
These switches are also as original 'box' type.
If anyone needs one give me a call.

Re: Original Tip Fits Switch replacement on Spectrum S
I ordered a switch and two modified tips from Westbone who was kind enough to provide me with them. The switch of my Prestige 150 broke of during transport (even though it was posted in it's original case and a box). Too busy all the bloody time to pick it up. It's still out of town with a friend I borrowed it to. I wanted a spare tip too and the modified tips he produced can not be differentiated from the originals! Fast delivery fair price.
I am very impressed with Westbone's service! This is great part
of the fun with people here on this forum. Folks here who are helping others out with Westone guitar
restoration projects! Love it!!

Re: Original Tip Fits Switch replacement on Spectrum S
Thanks for the thumbs up fellas...
If anyone needs a switch or a new tip, give us a shout.
Won't be around for a month or so but leave a pm and I'll get back.

Finally got around to installing the new switch, and both the original collar and tip fit perfectly. You'd never know it had been changed
(shhhh!)

Stick it on the FIX IT Barry.
Same as the trem insert for the arm on the FT trem.
Your slackin' Bro!

Re: Original Tip Fits Switch replacement on Spectrum S
Will do. I'm presently compiling info on trems in general, including your insert fix.
