Looks like a 86 w/ bendmaster, knobs are not original, the rest looks ok. Never seen a paint job like that - whats up with the back of the neck being black. Previous damage perhaps? A little pricy fo sho.

String lock is not OEM, and the output corner has taken a fearful knock. $700 is way steep, and besides, they're not neck-thru, but set neck!

I thought that the x199 Phoenix was set neck and the FX was neck thru, at least the later models? scratch

They did come in solid colors in later years too but I've not run across this shade yet. I'll try to take his temperature on what he thinks is a reasonable offer when I contact him.

To distract y'all from my misuse of the term neckthru I wrote a little ditty I'll call Dueling Archives...

http://www.rivercityamps.com/electrapage/comments.php?y=08&m=01&entry=entry080123-130035

As you read down the variations in the neck join are fleshed out abit more from 1986. I know I had seen one of these before as I now remembering trying to purchase one on CL in St. Louis with the assistance of an Electra forumite who goes by the handle of ultra sonic.

So can we agree on the set neck in principle but more correctly describe it as a bayonet join on this model. The one I was seeking in St. Louis was the metallic red w/black center color theme.

Smoke and mirrors, Steve..... bayonet join is still a set neck! Very Happy Laughing Very Happy Laughing

Regardless of the smart-arsery from yours truly, I'd like one with the contoured neck join as the MIK guitars I have have the same join and it is just fabulous!!

The bayonet joint is just a set neck that goes deeper into the body, thus a set neck. Wink

edit: ^^^ John beat me to it.

+1 What they sed!
If it ain't going all the way thru and it ain't bolted, it's "set". Makes no real difference how.

Mea Culpas in triplicate then. Please consider me lashed 30 times with a wet noodle.

I did make him an offer (somewhat in fun only) of $300. He countered with $495 within the day. Still too rich for my blood at this point, but at least he is willing to work with a buyer.
