Looks to be a very fine example of the mid-90s FCN revival guitars! Must be a good one if he's gigged it so much, eh? Very Happy

I'm seriously surprised this has not sold and at a decent price as well.

This sale has absolutely nothing to do with myself.

They are solid guitars. May I be so bold as to say better made than the late 80's Korean ones. Solid bodies, standard floyd. A lot of guitar there. Keep going on about these, try one and see.

Probably the cracks in the neck support area, looks like a design weakness waiting to happen. Was going to hit the BIN button on your reco until I looked at that a bit closer. What you think?

My God - Aren't we a weird lot?

We lust after guitars.

We buy guitars, have them delivered when the wife is out, put them in suitcases, hide them under beds, make up stories about the new 3 replacing the old expensive one you sold.

The best way is to buy some and sell some. If you have loads of guitars, the little lady gets all confused as she can't tell old from new. So long as she sees some getting boxed and sold, she can live with others coming in.

I don't really hide my guitars, although I do have some in wardrobes, which means I don't have space for more clothes, which means that I have money for more guitars.

I only get a little nervous if I have to buy another guitar rack as I have kinda run out of explanations for that.

Aha! it has struck me - I am buying and selling guitar racks! (Thank the Lord for blatant lies and downright deceit!!)

Yup - We are a weird lot!

Weird, yes. But we ain't alone I can tell you.
Lots of players come into the shop afflicted with GAS. With misty eyes they fondle the object of their desire, and make their way to the cash register.

Then the cold splash of reality sets in as they punch in the credit card number."What will the wife/girfriend do when she finds out?! I have to figure out a way to keep it from her for awhile."

We have a room at the back filled with stuff on 'lay away' as the future owners bob and weave and conjure up how to smuggle their treasure home. It's amazing. Guys actually come in on a lunch break to pay off a few bucks and sit and play awhile. So sad.

I tell them, "Look, would she rather have you spend the money on booze, gambling and wild women?? It ain't like you're cheating on her or pissing away the money. A Taylor, Martin, or top end Fender or Gibson isn't going to lose its value." Seems to help a bit.

All this while I struggle daily to suppress my own GAS! Fortunately, I still prefer the more modest guitars of Uncle Mats. Unfortunately, there are very few around these parts. But...there is this nice little Fender Squier Custom with P90's that I have my eye on. (Urpp! 'Scuse me) What a Face

Damian and anyone else,

Some help requested:-
- any info on these, whats the push pull do, who made it, whats it made of, what model is it etc?
- Never had a guit with a floyd rose bridge. Was a bit more than a semitone off concert pitch and have discovered tuning is a pain, any tips?
- It has 2 cracks near the base of the neck which Im pretty certain are lacquer only, the neck is fixed solidly. Any advice on fixing the lacquer cracks?
- It only seems to work with batteries in, whats the electronics: eq I guess as its not loud (unlike a thunder)?

Another first for me is a 2 octave neck, fret 24 is quite accessible.

PS theres no way this baby has been heavily gigged, its in great nick, just a couple of small dings in the headstock and minor surface scratches on the back.

Still no-one seems to have noticed, its hanging on the wall.

Shocked CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!! cheers You just met your obligation under the 48 hour rule.

You may now proceed to give that newbie the thrashing it deserves. I mean you BEAT that thang like a red-headed stepchild, Grogg. The more noise the better.

If your lovely bride asks about it anytime from then you may now exercise your hard won license to reply, "Dear, I've had this one 'round for awhile now", then nonchalantly return to the task at hand.

Case closed. That is all...

I dunno, there's just something about this one. Made in Indonesia, Agathis body (nice weight), great vintage yellow colour, matt finished neck, and two "Seymour Duncan Designed" P90-2 Pickups (Alnico 5 Magnets) that just wail! It's the farthest thing from a traditional Tele layout, more like an LP, but it sounds great! Love it. And the price is ridiculously low...less a current Fender $25 rebate promo. I told the boss if it hasn't sold by Christmas I'll take it.

Also, for those who have not yet clued in to the Classic Vibe Squier series...run, do not walk, to the closest geetar shop and try 'em! As Damian mentioned already, you'll be astounded at how good they are!

That's a beaut Barry! Hope you can get it. P90's are really raging back nowadays. I traded Kahlers with a guy out West, and he's a Squire fan. He's got all makes and models of guitfiddles, but says that for the money right now, that these squiers are the business! A friend of mine gigs with his Squier Tele all the time and loves it.

And you guys crack me up with this thread, good reading it is! lol!

Nice one grogg..
Pull/push is a coiltap for the humbucker, obviously.
The humbucker is the only active pickup.
Tuning. Slacken off your string clamp. Set your fine tuners about halfway, tune up, clamp, fine tune.
Set the springs on the trem so it's parallel with the body.
It's made of mahogany with a 1/2" ash(sen) cap.
As for the neck 'cracks' flood with similar coloured lacquer and finely sand back and polish.
Think they were made by Vester in Korea. The battery cover has a name on from recollection.

Here's a link to mine.

Guess the lacquer on mine will be the same as yours, any recommendations? Should I clean out the crack first or just leave alone, they are quite fine cracks.

Battery cover says Vester and also SAEHAN MUSIC Co. LTD

Ice - I was talking about my Lord not yours.

Barry and Grogg. You are both good guys and you have been caught out by the the inability of the net to reflect body language.

This is the Season in which Ice's Lord was born ( I think that he is also known as "The Icelord") so, remember, Santa is coming soon and he won't be coming to anyone who is naughty!

Bazza, we need to read messages as good and gradually other as a last resort (body language hand of friendship and goodwill).Shocked Well sorted Sir Graham and Ron IceLord

I think it would be great to aim to have everything thats branded Westone on there eventually, even the German/Italian/Chinese?? stuff just so we dont have to rely on Damian et al going thats rubbish made in...Perhaps MIJ, MIK, MIUK and MIROW could be separated out. Understood if you want to limit the maintenance overhead though, willing to help, dunno how though. Pm if I can do some donkey work.

I think it would be good to catalogue everything under the brand name too, especially the Chinese stuff so that people know it's cheapo copies and not quality work!

As long as Barry can set up a seperate room out back for the Chinese ¢®️@¶, similar to an outdoor biffy perhaps, then maybe,.... JUST maybe. An "avoid at all costs" section might fit the bill.

OK sounds like some folks would like to see an extension of the Matsumoku mandate to at least include MIK models. Dunno about the post-MIK lot though. The German and Chinese stuff really is run of the mill product and not even close in terms of creative design or quality to the original Mats brand.

Much of the early Korean production appears to be top notch and probably deserves at least its own showcase. Having said that, who has the information/scans/specs/pix that we'd need to do a decent job?

A good ongoing project for the New Year methinks, assuming we can get more than just pictures.

Personally, I wouldn't want any of the current Westone labelled stuff anywhere near this forum; or near the .info site simply because we are celebrating the Matsumoku instruments primarily with the early Koreans added to te mix as they are interesting and well built instruments in their own right.

The modern stuff are blatant facsimiles of other instruments and even if they are decent quality, the ethos of what we call Westone is missing.

If we were to add a section for these travesties, then surely the early Italian instruments from the 60s deserve recognition as well?

So, that's my tuppence worth....

Maybe just a small section warning confused newcomers that "These guitars have nothing in common with original 81-91 Westone guitars" and maybe just a link to the Modern "Westone" guitars site. I don't think Barry should waste his time going into great detail about the wood, the hardware etc ...who cares? Personally the only Westone's that interest me are the unique 81-87 Matsumoku models.

I am only interested in the Matsumoku built guitars. Sorry, no slur intended for those who own Korean models, but they are just not within my sphere of interest.

Well these are pretty unique, top quality and apparently it was the Westone name that didn't help with sales at the time.
