Freshening up a Matsumoku natural finish - pictures added
Just tried this last night and it seems to have worked just fine. You know how worn open grain ash finishes such as on the Thunder, can look a bit patchy and forlorn?
Just use some dilute stain to colour any really worn bits and then rub over the whole finish with some Danish Oil. I have loads of the stuff as I have hardwood worktops (countertops my North American Cousins!!). It works a treat and gives a nice durable finish.
The guitar I experimented on was a Matsumoku made Hondo Professional double cut which has ash wings in a satin walnut finish.
It certainly beats a complete refinish with lacquer or trying to blow in small areas on a guitar front.
All it takes is a little wipe with rag, leave for 24 hours and that is it!!
Hoax (as always, a cheap fix from an idiot)

Here are photos as promised. I have only used Danish Oil on the front, the back has been left as purchased. The front was probably a little more worn than the back.
This is really a nice guitar but was not expensive as it is a Hondo. It is Matsumoku made with MMK 61 pickups and is a very good guitar.

Yup, works just fine to my eyes. I have only used Tung oil which dries to a hard glossy finish, but I understand that Danish oil may be a bit more subtle?

Look's very good Graham, I'll drink to that over the coffee table cheers.
Nice guitar.
I use dark Danish oil on lightish rosewood fingerboards, brings out the grain.
Only leave it on for about 15 mins. then polish it up and apply almond oil, works a treat.

The only thing about Danish oil is that your guitar smells like old 'chippy' oil for a few days.
'chippy' = fish + chip shop.
